this is why i posted this..after i read that on a site last night,it totally freaked me out beyond belief...ive never been dx with endometriosis, but i did have a gyno tell me once that just from some of my symptoms,he believed thats what i had..and yes,the waiting is horrid..i absolutly hate it with a passion..im so ready to get this done, and move forward with my life....thanks mickey, you made me feel better...sonie
Fast growth = cancer?? That is the exact opposite of what the nurse told me prior to my surgery. She is retired, but had worked primarily in the field of ob, and gyn surgeries in a large North Georgia hospital. When reviewing with her all my symptoms and the knowledge gained from my tests, she visibly seemed relieved when I told her that it was growing quickly. She stated that in her experience, cystic masses that grew quickly tended to be dermoids or endometriomas, both of which had been listed as possible diagnoses on my ultrasound report.
I have never read a "blanket" statistic indicating that complex masses were found in 30 to 35 percent of cases to be malignant. The problem is that simply stating a mass is complex is largely irrelevant to the statistical process. The more defining data that does lead to a meaningful statistic is: whether the number of cyst walls, the thickness of the cyst walls, the thickness of the cyst walls against the ovary, whether there are solid components to the cyst, whether the solid material is one mass or multiple spots inside the cyst, the size of the solid mass, whether there is evidence inside the ovary as well as outside, whether there is evidence of spread to other tissues, etc.
When all the data that I had on my cyst was applied to the statistical charts, I went into surgery knowing that I had, by the statistical charts, a 79 % chance of having cancer. My cyst was benign.
Yes, it is really frustrating and scary, isn't it?! The "not knowing" is the hardest part of the whole process.
hey there xray...i was told at the time of my ct scan, there was blood flow to the complex cyst, and also a large amount of free fluid in my abdoin, which the doctor at the er said maybe a cyst had ruptured, and thats where some of the excess fluid was coming from...during my u/s,the tech said there is blood flow to the complex cyst itself....as far as are they thinking its ovca..my doc did a ca-125 blood test, which did come back normal, but he told me he wouldnt honestly know anything for sure untill my surgery...so,you can take that as good or bad, however you look at it i guess..you didnt scare me more..im grateful you answered...i know you have alot of knoledge about this stuff, and id rather be totally prepared, then to go into this totally uninformed, and have a slap in the face...make sense?/sonie
The hair and teeth can actually be seen on u/s. Old blood could be a blood clot from a hemmorhagic cyst. You want to have flow to the ovary but being good or bad about flow to the mass cannot really be determined because you are premenopausal. I would bet that all will be just fine with you. Keep us posted!!

I read your post and I feel the same way you do. I have surgery tomorrow. I just found out about 1 week ago. I too feel sick to my stomach. I just want it to be over with. But from what I understand it then takes another 3 - 4 days to get results back from pathology. I tried looking back to see your history but could not find it. Is your CA125 normal? My mass is solid and I thought I heard the dr say when viewing the US that "yes that is blood" so I do not know if it was blood flow to the ovary or mass. Is it true blood to the mass is very bad??? When is your surgery? I wish all the best of luck. I will pray for you.
XrayU2,
I was reading your response regarding the blood flow. The comments made were during my US. I know there is blood flow to the ovary but if I am not mistaken there may have also been flow to the mass. Is this a bad sign??? My doctors, although are concerned because they are removing the mass, do not seem to have a grave outlook on the prognosis. I am 37 premenopausal. I am very confused by all the information I have been reading. My CA125 was 5. The dr. mentioned that although the mass appears solid on the US that it could potentially be "old" blood or mass w/tissue, such as hair, teeth etc. Do you really think drs. can get a general feeling for what they are dealing with from just an US and CA125? As I mentioned the nurse because an oncologist has not been scheduled for the surgery tomorrow that that is a promising sign. One is on call in the hospital however should god forbid the need arises. How ofter are CA125 normal and the results are bad??? I do not know how I am going to survive the next day. I keep thinking I feel the mass throbbing (I know it is in my head) and I can not tell you how many times I have vomited the little amounts of food I have eaten. Thanks for listening and responding!!!!
Are we talking blood flow seen on u/ s or on CT? On CT if something other than vessels and normal anatomy highlight it generally means that the highlighted object has taken on its own blood supply. Tumors/masses need its own supply to grow. On U/S however, if it states that there is no "doppler flow" to the ovary but a suspicious area in the ovary has flow then it opens a confusing area. In menopausal women, it is not a good sign and has a more likely chance that it is malignant. But, in premenopausal women it gets confusing and there is no hard data to say that premenopausal women definately have a malignant tumor just by judging on blood flow. Sonie, are they truly worried about ovca or have they given you other options to go on? Keep me posted on what you find out and I truly hope I have not made this more scary for you. The CT info, I know because that is what I do all the time and the u/s is because my said no doppler flow to my ovary but my mass had flow. I am only 31, though, and had I been menopausal I am sure they would have been much more concerned.
oh fancy i know girl, but i swear to god i feel like im going to vomit tonight...during the day ive been busy getting things ready, takin care of the kids, and getting groceries and such..im just freaking and thinking everything in my head that i can possibly think of....gosh i hate this....i wish it were just done over and i was back home.......geesh..please pray that i calm down, and just am able to relax the next couple of days...i love ya girl..thank-you for being such a good sister...sonie

Good questions. Do you know if yours has a vascular (blood) source feeding it? From what my doctor told me, that is not what you want to see. Also, did they run the CA 125 on you? While it is inaccurate, it is ok for detecting advanced stage cancer.
I know I am personally trying to think positively. Perhaps it will seem better if you look at it as a 65-70% chance that your cyst is benign. I know it sounds crazy, but it helps!
Best of luck to you.
