one more time please

i am so sorry for posting so many questions . i feel like am saying nothing but i  i i , or me me me. but sometimes i feel better asking questions here than anywhere else. i finally figured something out. the day before my surgery, i told me doctor that i might be catching a cold. she said we have to reschedule the surgery if so. but then she said come in for the surgery and we will see how bad it is. when i went in the next day, i was feeling fine so i had the surgery. then as you all knwo i was dizzy and sick up until now really bad. i went to the e.r yesterday, they told me i was fine. but now i am starting with a fever and my throat hurts. so i know i am coming down with a bad flu. my question is could i have had this cold virus in me the whole time and thats why i am feeling like this? and now that i am getting sick, how is that gonna interfere with me recovering from surgery? is it dangerous ? can i take some flu medicine while i am taking my pain killer medicines like once a day? what should i do to recover fast cause i have a baby i need to get to. thank you guys. i will be waiting for any advice.

i gotta be honest, i am a bit confused. the surgery was on the 6th, immidiately after that, i was dizzy. well, i dont know if i was dizzy, but i had to lay down and couldnt stand. so i kept laying down or sleeping the whole time. two days ago, when i went to the e.r. they said nothing is wrong with me. yesterday night, i had fever like symptoms and i knwo for a fact i am coming down with a cold or something bad. i feel like its not from the surgery. the e.r told me that there is not infection and everythign looked great. so i am just wondering if its gonna be harder for me to recover because of this cold and can the symptoms of dizziness i have been having be from being sick during and after surgery? so for the ear infection thing, i could have an ear infection? how does that relate to surgery though? thnak you guys agian

Hi Bootsy.  How long has it been since your surgery?  I will tell you as my gyn told me last year when I had my ovary reomoved.  If you have ANY fever over 100.5 (some doctors say 101.0)you need to call the doctor who did the surgery and let them know.  A lot of times this could be an infection due to surgery and you may need antibotics through an IV.  Last year after my surgery, I came home form the hopstial 3 days later.  That night I started running a 102 fever and had to go straight back to the hospital.  I was there for 3 more days.  Do not mess around with this as it could be from your surgery.  Did you have a fever when you went to the ER yesterday?  Please keep us posted.  Kasie

I've been through multiple cancer surgeries (not ovarian) and follow up radiation/chemo and every time I got every cold and flu around.  it comes with a suppressed immune system (and, yes, stress can suppress it too).  The only thing I've found that helps is zinc lozenges (Zicam or something similar).  I never believed in homeopathic stuff but I tried this during my last course of radiation/chemo and I haven't been sick since.  (I was getting serious bronchitis/sinus infections every 3-4 weeks prior).  It's worth a shot.  I haven't been sick in 4 months but everyone around me has.

Sorry you are still dizzy, do you remember I posted to you a few days ago.
After a surgery I had, I experienced severe dizziness, and it went on for several weeks, and I mean like six or more.  There was very little they could do for me. (This was after they determined I didn't have an infection or anything else going on).  It was HORRIBLE.  I felt seasick.

It also could be that you are getting a bug....or you have a sinus or ear infection....

I took an over the counter travel sickness drug. In Canada it is called Gravol.  I think in the States it is called Dramamine?  It helped a little bit.
Keep something light in your stomach like crackers.
Maybe send your husband to the store and pick up one of those wrist bands that people use when they get motion sickness when travelling.
I also tried using a decongestant to try and dry up the sinus cavities. It can be an imbalance in the inner ear.  It's very rare but it can happen from anesthetic and/or from lying flat during surgery.
Sit up and move slowly.
Get your blood pressure checked too.

You might just have to wait it out.  I know it is really debilitating.  I laid flat and closed my eyes, that was about it.  My husband thought I was a big faker, which was the most frustrating thing about it!  Shheeesh.

Every surgery I have had since, I have been terrified it will happen again, but it hasn't.

Good luck!!!  Hope it goes away soon!!  Keep still!!

About the ear connection.
In your inner ear (also called the labyrinth) you have fluid that moves around in canals, which controls and affects your balance.
When the fluid is disturbed for some reason (say, travel on a boat)you can get what they call labrynthitis, which is vertigo or being dizzy.
It can be caused by infections, actual physical problems in the ear or motion.
On rare occasions, it is affected by surgery too!
Some doctors pooh pooh the surgery link, but my doctor was sure that's what caused me to be so dizzy.
I feel for you, it's awful.
They must have stronger prescription drugs that can help you...Go back to your doctor!
