From what you wrote, I think I'm glad I had EVERYTHING removed with this initial surgery. Now it's just a question of whether or not the cells that were found in the peritoneal wash will metastasize. It almost sounds as if you had another primary cancer (first one uterine...second one ovarian). That's rare, but my mother suffered the same. Thanks for the input - it helps me prepare my list of questions for my next visit with my oncologist.
Thank you SO much for responding. I'm still unsure of my future, but it was encouraging to hear that your cancers were also estrogen dependent and that gives me hope that mine will not recur. Yes, I'm lucky that mine was found so early....I have REALLY good doctors. Thank GOD for that!!!
Hi Kathy,
I had a similar situation. Breast cancer, found not quite stage 1, in August of 2005. Mastectomy, no further treatment. Then ovarian cancer, stage 1, found Sept 2006. Complete hysterectomy. Biopsy then showed endometrial cancer, too. All stage 1. The wash found cancer cells, but they were ovarian; the tumor had ruptured during the surgery, while the doctors were right there. They washed me repeatedly.
Chemo, radiation followed.
I have a CT scan and a mammogram in one hour from now.
Now I'm on Aromasin. No recurrences so far, and it's 21 months after the ovarian and uterine cancers. The Aromasin, like the Provera, inhibits estrogen. All of my cancers were estrogen dependent, so I'll take it the rest of my life.
So far, so good!
Good luck to you! Congrats that the doctors found this so early in you!
Kathy (Survivor Susie)
I was diagnosed in late 2004 and had my hysterectomy in January 2005 for Endometrial Cancer I had everything out bar for one ovary, which at the time everyone was realy comfortable with (gyn/onc included) due to the fact that the pathology was so good.
Unfortunately in November 2006 that ovary turned malignant as well and I had to have it removed and due to the fact that it was my second bout of cancer, and they still to this day cannot determine whether it was a new spontaneous cancer or a recurrance (I think this is because of the previous good pathology, and the fact that there was squamous cell on the outside capsule of the ovary) I had chemotherapy and radiation treatment with it completing in July 2007.
I am currently in remission.
