ovarian cancer

by Pallavi19, May 20, 2009 03:23PM
I was diagnosed with stage III C ovarian cancer in December 2008 and this was optimally debulked. Disease was in botht he ovaries fallopian tube and one pelvic and two retroperitoneal lymphnodes. Peritoneal washing was positive but there was no peritoneal disease.
I did get six cycles of carbo/taxol, and opted to have Avastin that was added from 2nd cycle.
My CT PET and MR of the abdomen/pelvis  is negative. last three CA 125 has been 12.5 or less.
I have minimal neuropathy and have been told to be in complete remission.
I am naturally anxious to know what option do I have for the maintainance / consolidative therapy to keep the cancer away.
Your help will be very  much appreciated.

Very happy for your great news.

I have been offered to have 12 cycles of taxol (1/2 dose iv only) as consolidation after I finished 6 cycles of IP and IV with cisplatin and taxol treatment which ended May 2008.

Maybe you don't need it since you already had Avastin.  Just listen to your dr.

Peace and Love

  Pallavi,
You need to talk to your Dr about this as there seems to be mixed reactions on maintenence chemo. I for one recieved maintenence chemo but my cancer came back before I was finished with it. I am not trying to scare you. I was diagnosed stage IV, and had 8 rounds of carbo/taxol then had surgery. I was told then that due to the extent of my cancer that I would be on chemo for the rest of my life. So did the maintenence chemo work? Hard to say. The Drs were right as I have been on chemo ever since. When it stops working i move on to some other kind.
See what your Dr recommends. It may be that it will work for you. I hope so. Keep us informed as to what happens next.
