ovarian cyst removal surgery

HI! I had a 10cm cyst removed along with my ovary and tube on 6/9/2006. I have been home from the hospital a week today. I am easily fatigued and have been having horrible gas pains. I am going for my first check up this week. Can anybody tell me what the average recovery time is as far as going back to work. I have an office job which can be very demanding? Right know the thought of working is the furtherest thing from my mind! Thanks for any input you may have.

I think those who said they went back to work after 3 weeks also said they regreted it!

I am having laparotomy and the nurse told me today I would be written a sick note for 6 weeks which would be reviewed by own GP after that.

Thanks for the helpful info. I am having trouble sleeping at night because of the incision. I do get spurts of energy but they don't last long. I haven't left my home since I came home from the hospital so I may think I'm doing better than I am because of not doing much. I guess I just need to wait and see what my doc says on the follow up appt this week.I am just a worrier. Thank you so much for all the helpful info it does make me feel better.

I had a laparotomy and started working from home again after 3 weeks.  If you take it easy in the first few weeks you should be okay to go back to work after about 4 - my wound had some issues healing after the staples came out, so that might set you back a little.  You will also get tired easily.  If you don't need to go back to work in a hurry I would take the full 6 weeks to get fully better.

Hi did they do a Laperoscopy? or laperotomy? ie: a few little tiny cuts or 1 big incision? The reason I ask is my doc is doing mine on wednesday and he is doing a laperotomy to remove an 8.5 cm mass and ovary(the big incision) and I will be off work for 4 - 6 weeks, Years ago I had the laperascopic surg and was only off for about 10 days. Good luck and hope you heal quickly

I had a laperotomy. My doc said 6-8 weeks, but I have read on these boards that some have gone back to work as soon as 3-4 weeks. I just don't know what to expect. I guess I will have to wait until I see my doc for the first follow up appt when I get the staples removed. Good luck to you!
