Oh, that is good news. As she is relatively young and does not have symptoms, then it further increases the chance that the tumor is benign or very early malignancy. As for the prostate connection, the more relevant information is the length of time...it appears that had her father proceeded with a surgical removal of the prostate tumor, then it might not have progressed into cancer. So, as you can see, the sooner your mum has the tumor removed, the better. Most likely, her doctor will simply recommend either the removal of the tumor with the ovary, or a complete hysterectomy. Her recovery time should run from 2 weeks to 6 weeks, depending on which procedure is performed.
thank you all very much for your responses ladies.
mickey to answer some of your questions:my mum is 53.it was routine checkup at her gyno.no symptoms prior to that.unfortunatelly her father had long time prostate problems, and last year after years of having benign prostate enlargement it turned into malignant form:(....from her mothers side nothing that i know of.
update:today she has done ca125 test and it came out as 7.thats great isnt it?she still has to go to color doppler tho.i know its benign tumour,it must be,but am just wondering that she still will have to get it out yes?i hope that operation procedure isnt risky....
greetings from concerned son
How old is your mum? Does she have, or her relatives have, any history of ovarian cancers, breast cancers, or colon cancers? Does she have any symptoms that resulted in the ultrasound, or was it a routine test? Were there any other indications of abnormalities anywhere else? 1 cm is rather small, and while scary sounding, the highly reflective description basically means the mass is solid...in the event the mass is found to be malignant, it likely has been found very early. Early detection and removal is the key to success in treating ovca.
It is simply very difficult to find information on benign ovarian masses. The focus is on cancers. When I was diagnosed with a large scary complex mass in 2004, I looked all over for information, and it appeared that "everything is just cancer" --- but for the fact that I found this website. Here, women who'd already experienced the journey that I was just beginning could share their stories, and statistics.
There are lots of benign types of tumors and I just had one. The doppler blood flow according to my doc shows a very specific pattern when it is ovca vs benign. It is a very scary time but hang in there and we will all pray with you that it turns out fine.
Welcome to the site. Let me tell you that 99% ov ovarian cysts are BENIGN. I hope that this will help ease your fears somewhat. It is good that she is getting the testing that she needs. Unfortunately the only way to determine what the growth is is to go in and biopsy it. A dr. cannot tell simply by the ultra sound. You will get a lot of good advice and answers here. You and your mom are in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed
