Sonie, "neoplasm" means nothing more than "new growth."  He has decided from the medical reports that you have a growth on your ovary, a growth that might be of ovarian tissue (as opposed to an endometrioma which is largely endometrial tissue, or a dermoid which is more or less an improperly formed and processed egg.)  While scary, the term is not indicative of whether the growth is benign or malignant.

Hi there,

He has to put something on the diagnosis sheet for coding purposes, etc., so do not worry too much until you know what is going on for sure  But neoplasm does mean cancer.  That does not necessarily mean you have ovarian cancer, but maybe he has to put that down as the indication for surgery to submit to your insurance or whatever.

In any case it is good you are having this taken care of, so try to focus on that fact, that you did not listen to the other doctor and went to one who is more cautious.

Take care,

Lori
