ovarian tumor and pregnant

I am 14 weeks pregnant and have a 10 cm tumor on my right ovary.  The Dr. is wanting to operate when I am 16 weeks.  Is this necessary?  Has any one had this before?  Will my baby be safe?
I am scared and not sure what the best thing to do is.
thanks
Lisa

I had found out I had a cyst when I was 6 weeks pregnant. They did not worry about it untill about 20 weeks. It had grown to about 11 cm. They sent us to a specialist and they wanted to operate at 24 weeks but they said we could wait until 35 weeks so the baby had time to develop. At 32 weeks we went in to check up and they could not find it. We had a bad feeling it was still there and the they checked again at 36 weeks on Thursday and found it was hiding behind the baby's head. Of course we paniced and the doctors set us up for surgery the following Tuesday. They put me completly under and the baby came out fine and they had to remove my right ovary. In the end it all worked out well so no worries. The baby was healthy and they removed my right ovary and they will keep an eye on me every 4-6 months for the next 5 years just in case. They said they want to remove the other ovary as soon as I decide I do not want anymore children just in case. It did turn out to be a tumor border line cancer. Just so you know that everything is well and we are all fine. As long as I get checked on then we can wait to have the other on removed because I am only 26 years old. This is not ment to scare you but to let you know that I had the same problem and we are doing well so try not to worry to much. Keep me posted on your progress.

I know this is late, but I just went through that in September.  They found the cysts (I had 4) when I went to the ER thinking I was having a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.  My OB/GYN and I decided to play the wait and see game until I was through my first trimester.  I made it until 10 weeks.  I had severe pelvic and back pain.  When I finally decided to go the ER I couldn't even walk.  I had an ovarian torsion at that point. They removed the cysts (each the size of a softball) and the baby is doing just fine!!!!!  The only downside was that I did lose weight in the hospital and my scar continues to stretch and itch since I'm gaining weight now.  But all in all both me and baby are healthy.  If it's necessary, (and it sounds like it is...otherwise your doctor wouldn't be risking your baby's life) have the surgery - you and baby will be fine!

The cyst originally was thought to be a dermoid, but now they are pretty sure it is a benign ovarian tumor (I don't know beyond that).  Are there different kinds?
We found out about the cyst at the same time as the pregnancy.
They are wanting to remove it for the safety of me and the baby as well to ensure that it is not malignant.
thanks
