ovarian worries

Hi-

I'm 28 and just returned from long trip in SE Asia. I'm wondering if my symptoms are possibly caused by a parasite, or could indicate an ovarian problem. I've had extreme bloating, and get very full after even a small meal. My pants fit very tightly around my waist and I've gained about 4 lbs, though I'm a competitive athlete and am training as much as ever and eating less, due to the fullness. About 2 months ago, before I left for my trip, I thought I was developing a UTI, and painful & urgent urination became a problem while I was away- though the urination pain has lessened since I've been home. I have pretty regular abdominal cramping, usually on the lower left side. One day I was crampy on both sides, and it really felt similar to when I was an egg donor and my ovaries were quite large. This is before I knew that any of these symptoms could actually indicate an ovarian problem- I was still just thinking maybe I had giardia or something. I'm concerned because I was an egg donor about 3 years ago, and developed ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, and worry that this puts me at higher risk for ovarian cancer. Most of the parasites I've read about seem to cause weight loss, not bloating and weight gain. Should I be getting checked out for an ovarian issue?

thanks for the advice & good wishes. i'm going to have a pelvic & abdominal ultrasound next week, after my parasite tests all came back negative. my doc had me do liver panel bloodwork, as well, and my liver function test results were slightly elevated, which she says could be a lab fluke. i'm still crampy on the lower left side, though my appetite and bloating seem to have improved a bit. but i'm also seriously exhausted all the time. so that's all the news for now- i'll keep you posted.

Hi,

I just wanted to say that your symptoms sound a lot like mine, so I'm watching this thread to see if you find anything out. Your situation is a lot different from mine -- I'm a decade+ older, and went through an early menopause several years ago. But, the extreme bloating, feeling full, sudden uncharacteristic weight gain (3 pounds), and crampy pain are very familiar. I had a transvaginal ultrasound, which came back "normal" only showing a small simple cyst, and an abdominal/pelvic CT scan which came back normal as well.

Yes from what I have read and living in Asia, most parasites cause weight lose...You should go see an OBGYN  and ask for various tests to be done...Be prepared so that you don't waste time going back and for, these tests can sometimes take 10 days to get results...If it is OC, you want to catch it early!! WIshing you good results
