ovca and vomiting

My Mom had her gallbladder removed almost 2 months ago then 2 weeks after the surgery she began having terrible upper right abdomen pain with vomiting.  The past two months we've been at the hospital twice each 1 weeks stay with numerous GI tests.  Her CT scans show that Gemzar was nolonger helping and disease has progressed but not much, no major organs involved.  They did find pleural effusion in moderate to large size and claimed that all her problems are from the effusion.  We had that drained at the hospital last week, 1 litter.  She also began new treatment of doxil 3 weeks ago. She just left the hospital 4 days ago on second day home the pain and vomiting is back, so then its not from the effusion.  Saw the pulmonary doctor today for follow up and he says that the vomiting and pain is in fact NOT from the pleural effusion.  So what is this, what can be causing the pain and vomit.  She has no bowel obstruction, just seedings around the peritoneum...could that cause the severe pain and vomiting.  We are lost here.  They are looking at us like we are crazy at the ER and the hospital.  Tomorrow we are meeting with a new GI doctor that hopefully will look into this seriously rather then passing it off on cancer.
Can a person with ovca has this type of pain (where the gallbladder was) and vomit with no actual signs on scans meaning no obstructions no cancer in organs?
thanks for any input.

I have had several problems of varying severity with bowel obstructions.  Tell your Mother they come and go. They cannot always be caught on the CT Scan.  I had one today that lasted about two hours. I did not vomit, nor did I decide to run to the ER.  I wanted to give it time to works itself out and it did.  At the hospital they ususally try to drown me with IV liquids and pain meds to make them subside. I think they gave me Xanax to in an attempt to relax me,hoping relaxing the colon too.  I gave myself Xanax, drank plenty of water AND doubled up on my pain meds. The pain from a blockage is some of the worst pain I've ever experiened. It is worse than labor pains at times.

I hope this helps anyone out there who might just end up with blockages too.

Hi,

my mum got gallbladder removal too and at her last scan they could not see any tumor mass, just a liquid mass near her left lung and it was very painful when she moved. they decided to try a new chemo.
Unfortunately my mother was in bad general health conditions and in her mind sh decided not to struggle anymore.
But your mum is young and maybe she can stand other kinds of therapies!!!
I wish to read good news from you soon.
Hugs

  Fiana,
I really wish that I could help you but I have no idea what could be causing your moms problems. I would almost wonder if it might not be the chemo causing the vomiting, but the pain along with it doesn't seem right. Is it a constant pain, or just pain when she is getting sick? Have you spoken to her oncologist about this? He may have some insight that a GI Dr would not have.

Adding:  She even received morphine at the hospital for the abdomen pain and nausea and that didnt completely alleviate the pain.  Could this be complication from gallbladder removal...Im even thinking pancriatitis.
