pain in right ovary

I am 28 years old and have been having pain in right side for about 2 years now. I used to feel like the pain was about the size of a nickel, but now feels like it is the size of a half dollar. The pain starts in my right ovary but also hurts in my hip, and down my right leg.(stopping just before my knee) I went to the doctor when it started, and she sent me for sonograms, internal sonograms, and another test. She said that something showed up, but she thought it was just the clamp where they tied my tube. Told me not to come back till I can't take the pain anymore. Recently it has bee hurting much more. It's been 3 weeks now and it hurts everyday. (not all day, but everyday) Started after my last period. I am getting nervous because I am going to a different doctor. Has anyone have pain like this and what can it be, should I be as worried as I am. I keep wanting to cancel appointment, but I hurt too much and am scared. Any help with this would be great. I also have heavy periods and alot of clotting. Is that normal?

I had the same problem.  I was on birth control pills to control ovulation and was still having pain and periods every other week, for about 3 months.  I also had ovarian cysts, but they were there for years.  My symptoms just kept worsening.  I went in for laproscopic surgery in October of 2007 for two ping pong sized cysts and they found multiple sites of endometriosis.  It appears that the endometriosis had been spreading which was causing the worsening of the symptoms.  After the surgery, I stopped the birth control as I didn't like the side effects.

This January, I ended up in the ER with excruciating pain during bowel movement and constipation with no change in diet, exercise, or water intake.  It was unexplainable.  The doctor could find no obstruction, but I had a horrible feeling the endometriosis was back and it had moved to my bowel.  They didn't believe me.  I plugged along for nearly 4 months with constipation and pain during bowel movements, pain during urination, and abdominal cramping. I ended up in the ER in May, when a 7cm ovarian cyst ruptured.  It resealed itself and continued to grow.  So, last week, I had surgery again.  And again, during the build up to the surgery I had all kinds of complications related to bowel movements and urination.  I also began to experience fatigue.  The week before the surgery it was all I could do to stay awake after work long enough to eat dinner.  I was also having sharp cramping pain through my hip and down my leg muscle.

This time during the surgery, they found endometriosis on my bowel in multiple sites.  They also found a cyst so large it was pushing on my bladder, bowel, and hip joint.  This time I agreed to have a IUD that releases progesterone inserted.  Supposedly, it will do what the birth control pills were supposed to do with less side effects.  Supposedly, it will decrease the likelihood that I will develop more sites of endometriosis or ovarian cysts.  Here's hoping!

Endometriosis can be life changing in a very negative way.  For the past 9 months I have been unable to do much more then gentle walks due to pain.  Sex became a thing to be avoided for me.  I became reclusive (well reclusive for me... I'm usually very social), as I never knew when the pain would hit.

Every women's response to endometriosis will be different.  Especially when it comes to pregnancy.  I was told that there is a strong possibility that I cannot have children, but then I have heard many stories of women with similar complications being able to both conceive and carry healthy babies to term.

Getting a laproscopy shouldn't hurt your chances of getting pregnant, but endometriosis ruling your cycles might.  Knowledge is power and knowing what is going on in your own body can decrease a lot of anxiety and stress.

Try to track down a female gyno for a consult, especially around pregnancy concerns. (Not to dis male gynos as they have all the same knowledge as females, but I think that often female gynos understand the psychological aspects and fears better)

Laproscopy is not fun (nor is two in two years), but being symptom free sure is.

I wish you the best of luck.

Hi, i was told by my Dr. that I have multiple lymph nodes on the right lower quadrant and possibly related to adenitis.  I feel like a burning paint in my right abdominal and noticed that when I have sex it gets worst... Is this normal?? Also, I am overweight, does the weight and large abdomen has to do anything with the Nodules?  Will I develop cancer???

I will have another CT Scan in January... Also, on my Ultrasound reads as there is a fibroid within the uterus and is slightly getting bigger...

I feel abit better after reading this. I though i was ALONE on this one. I have had the exact same pain in my right ovary that burns, and shoots down to my legs and stops at the knee, but my feet tingles for YEARS!!!! I have taken 2 ultrasounds and the doc saw some fluid in the right ovary and said it's normal. We repeated that test maybe 2 months later, saw same thing, said all is normal. BUT I DON'T FEEL NORMAL!! i feel like ****! It has gotten worse because i use to be on the seasonal birth control pills and then he took me off of them. So it's been almost a year now that i have stopped taking the pills. The pain is worst if i have to go to the washroom too pee or do a number 2. It's like an huge pressure on the right ovary. I want to know if there is a test that just focuses on the ovaries that i could take? because it honestly feels like something is growing over there and it is very sensitive. 1 poke and i'm in pain for days. I'm booked to meet with a gyn in march this year but thats so farrr away and i need a solution now!!! Will keep u all posted on my progression

I have been going to the doctor's for abut 6 months because I am gaining weight like crazy...so far it is 60 lbs. I also have edema and my doctor is clueless to why it is happening. I also have severe pain in my right ovary but it is accompanied with very dark brown discharge. When the ovary is pressed on I leak more dark brown discharge. My doctor has already referred me to a rhumatologist because the pain in my wrists, ankles, feet, and legs get so bad that it takes a while for me to get going in the morning. But since I dont have insurance the rhumatologist says he won't treat me and "he doesn't think i have a rhumatoid problem" I do have to get a full abdominal ultrasound but I was going to wait until I get insurance again. I also had many blood tests done and everything has been coming back good except for I have a sed rate of 39 and a c-reative protein of 25. Once again they can't figure anything out. I also had all my hormones checked and everything is normal.

I've been having pain in my ovaries for about week....pain is worsening each day.  At first I thought it was just my Crohn's disease because I'm having diarrhea, bloating, gas, loss of appetite, nausea, and weight loss.  I looked up the symptoms I'm having including the pain in my ovaries, and they are symptoms for ovarian cancer.  Has anyone else had these symptoms?

I have been to the doctor for the same pains that you are describing and they told me the same thing take the birth control pills and it will go away. But i have been on bc pills for three years and i still have the same pain. It's beginning to be very painful. I had cyst before but never internal ones. I don't know what to do i just want the pain to go away. I am going to go to my doc one more time  and decide weather or not i should change my doc.

First of all..........if someone tells you don't come back until you can take the pain............they are in the wrong line of work!  Seek new advice.  I have had cysts in ovaries and breast for a very long time. It is painful................if one ruptures it is suppose to be REALLY painful....do you have a fever?  Call the doctor and insist on a drug that will help.perhaps a anti inflammatory would help.....don't let them put you off......what in the world has happened to the medical people????  Shame on them.

That is so weird. Because all that stuff you have talked about I have. I'm 20 years old and I have a history of cysts before I was put on birth control 2 years ago.  Since then I have had no problems with cysts unless I forget to take my pills for over 4 days.  Recently I had a lot of pain in my left side from my thigh area to my hip, left ovary and abdomen.  People think I'm weird but I'm in a lot of pain, 2 weeks of all the conditions but 2 months from the thigh.  Now its starting to spread to the right side but not as bad.  I dont think it is a cyst because I know the difference.  I'm going to be getting scheduled for an ultrasound soon to hopefully put all this to rest.  Please let me know if you found anything else out about your condition.  I'm very nervous and believe that since I'm young people wont take me seriously.

Well, I went to OBGYN and he sent me for ultrasound....he wants to see if it is just a cyst or endometriosis. He said he felt a lump right away. I am awaiting resluts and am a bit nervous, but not too much. He gave me pain killers that don't seem to help much except they put me to sleep.

The heavy periods and clotting are likely due to high estrogen levels, which are common in younger women.   The pain that you describe as running through your hip into your thigh area sounds like pain related to a pinched or damaged nerve.  It is quite possible that you have adhesions or scar tissue from the surgery to tie your tubes, and these scars might be causing some problems.  It is also possible that you might have endometriosis, which can cause abdominal swelling and pain.  Don't be surprised if the doctors suggest that you take birth control pills.
