Hi I responded to this last night but for some reason it didn't post. This is the kind of drain I had. The advantage of the pleurex cath. is that it stays in place and is just clamped off from draining to draining which is much less traumaticAmputation - traumatic Post-traumatic stress disorder than being cutCuts and puncture wounds into each time you need to be drained. No draining is pleasant but they can (and should ) give her something right before they drain her. The less their is to drain the more it hurts b/c the plura (walls of the chest) are rubbing and getting irritated.. I hope this resolves for your mom soon. It is a horrible feeling and I will hold good thoughts for you and her.
All the best.
