post 6th chemo

by SimplyStar, Nov 22, 2006 12:00AM
I am wondering if any of you can tell me if the 6th chemo is rougher to recover from.  Daughter not bouncing back this time and it has been a week. Other 5 took 3 to 4 days. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Hi. Your daugher's energy level may take a little longer each time she does chemo to get back to "normal". Chemo is cumulative so each one you do is a little bit harder. Just guide her in eating healthy and taking walks. I wanted to quit after the 4th when my CA125 came into normal range but of course my oncologist advised against that. Walking helps also to pep you up and keep depression at bay. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs.

I agree; chemo effects are cumulative.  The fact that your daughter was so intent on putting Thanksgivng together maybe stressed her out a bit and caused her a little anxiety to get through her last treatment and into the holiday.  Taking time for herself, not rushing things, and being patient are all key.  Walking, too, as the previous post says, will boost her spirits and increase her energy level.  She doesn't have to do it all at once.  Sometimes we are so impatient with ourselves and that is unfair; but I guess that is also human nature.  She is surrounded by love; and this, too will help her get back on her feet.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving; and tell your daughter to enjoy and celebrate the completion of her chemo! She remains in my prayers!

Agree with everyone's comments.  It took me a long time to recover from the last round of chemo.  Really took the stuffing out of me!  Just know that she will bounce back in time.  This is a time to really be kind to yourself.  Although it's important to try to stay active, don't have her push herself too hard.  She's made it through treatment and that's a great accomplishment!
