pre surgery tests

I posted once before and felt really good from the support here. Liver specialist ordered a CT in early may.  CT found a mass on rt ovary, sent me to GYN,  gyn did an US and found the same measured 8.6 cm x 6.6 cm ordered a new CT and with A new se of radiologists for our local hosp. They read 4 cysts  the largest was 4 x 3 cm.  Gyn sent me to a specialist and he did yet another US and came up with mass for the third time. Is doing surgery in late June to remove. he sent me home with a "laundry list" of tests to be run before surgery (am 4 hrs away from Specialist) One of the tests is a colonoscopy to be sure that colon isn't involved also.  I took list to PCP instead of GYN (big mistake) PC had trouble getting me in to surgeon for Colonoscopy in area due to scheduling reasons so he said it is not necessary and is reading only the local CT and says even surgery really isn't necessary since it is only cysts. My liver doc wants the cysts gone before I start treatment for hep-c even if it is only a cyst as any infection can cause me to get even more sick with the hep-c treatment. at this point I am ready to look for new PCP....  I mean I can't believe that the specialist gives him a list of tests to be run before surgery and he is trying to decide which test is needed and which is not!!!!     I am at my witts end here,  any ideas?

Welcome back!  Stick with the specialist.  It may be a drive, but the dr. needs these tests so that he can take care of you.  Sounds like your PC got his nose a bit out of joint.  Don't worry, just have the other dr get the tests done for you.  Some dr.s are a bit territorial, but it is your health we are dealing with here and if these tests are needed, then they must be done.  Good luck and keep us posted.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

thank you that is what a couple of people have said.  although at this point I am ready to get a new PCP.  My health is more important than my dr.s ego.... and I have no room in my life for an egotistical Doc.  much earlier this year he said something about having the liver doc prescribe the meds and that doc would manage the treatment... liver doc said NO WAY!! general Docs are not as knowledgeable about Hep-c test results as the specialists are.  I feel the same way about the GYN stuff.  A PCP is good for most but when ya are referred to a specialist you need to follow exactly what he wants the specialist knows the reasons even if no one else does.

By all means, get a PCP who cares about YOU--and not his own ego!!  This about YOUR health!!

Good luck to you!
