question about my incision

Hi all, everything has been going good with my recovery. I had vertical laporotomy sept 28, big incision from pelvic to belly button.   I am not having any pain now, I had the staples taken out last week, they put steri strips on, but they didn't use any benzoid? (can't remember the name of the stinky brownish stuff they put on to keep the tape sticking)  Anyway, they didn't use any, I think the assistant didn't know what she was doing and was new.  The strips have fallen off now because of it.  I dont' really think it is a big deal cause its really healed well, with no signs of infection or pain.  I was just looking at it with my mirror and noticed a small purple area at the bottom of it.  It is about the size of a watermellon seed.  it is intact and doesn't hurt, it almost looks like a purple scab there?  It wasn't there a few days ago.  Does anyone know what this is and if I should be concerned?  Hematoma?  Wouldn't that come before now?  Thanks.  Merytre

Naughty naughty. I said dont mess!!!. Be careful if anything starts to ooze out get straight to docs. I had stitch abcess on both ends of my scar line and they take ages to heal and are painful.Try putting a table spoon of salt in bath water it helps healing process. Best wishes.

hi
Here's 2 options. I) a small blood blister. 2) a internal stitch or dissolvable stitch.
Dont mess with it. get doc to check it out.

Thanks for the advise guys.  Heres the update, kind of gross. I took a hot shower and I guess it brought the blood under the skin to the top.  The next thing I knew there was blood coming out where the scab was.  It wasn't a lot but I had my husband squeeze as much out as he could.  This morning it was scabbed over again.  I did internet searching and I found out that it is probably a hematoma, and it was good it came out.  Anyway, I don't know what caused it but hopefully it won't come back. :)  Merytre

My steri strips fell off quickly too, but everything looked like it was healing well so I didn't worry about it. I had some bruising along part of my incision....maybe that's what your purple spot is? You might want to just call your doctor's office and ask. My doctor said mine was nothing to worry about, but sometimes you can get a blood clot under there. Never hurts to ask!
