recurrance after 10 years?

by concerneddau, Nov 11, 2009 04:19PM
Mom (diag asIIC) has been in the clear for over 10 years, but is now having pain on her left side.  Could it be back?  She has an apt with gyn onc next week.  What questions need to be asked?

I would ask for a full gyn/onc follow up - CA-125 if that was a good marker for her, and a CT scan. Just to be on the safe side.

Keep in mind though that there are a LOT of conditions other than cancer that can cause a pain on the left side.

Fingers crossed!

There are a lot of things that can cause pain in our bodies, but once you've had cancer, that is what is going to leap to mind.  Yes, cancer can recur years, or even a decade later; however, even if it is a recurrence, you can achieve a 2nd lengthy remission oftentimes using the exact same chemo regimen as you did the first time.  It's much more likely that your Mom's pain is caused from something else; so, good luck on whatever the diagnosis is.
