removal of left ovary and complex cyst 6 months ago now right ovary enlarged

6 months ago I had left ovary, tube, 10cm complex cyst and appendix removed by laparotomy no cancer. Recently I had a uti and doctor sent me for a pelvic ultrasound. Results right ovary boderlined enlarged with ovarian volume 20cc no focal lesion seen. Right ovary was fine 6 months ago. Any ideas what is going on. The ultrasound was taken a day before my period. I still have back pain radiating down my left leg. I thought the pain would go away after the surgery. Thank you for any input you can give me.

I am feeling very healthy.  Sometimes I get twinges of mild pain and pressure in various parts of my abdomen and it usually resolves within a day.  Most of the time I am not aware of having a cyst.  I feel nervous sometimes about waiting to have this cyst dealt with but am trying to stay positive.  I don't know if I am in menopause yet, last year my doc tested my levels said I was not in menopause yet.  I am 51 and have read in this forum that cysts after menopause have a better chance of being cancer.  But the CA test was only 17 and my gynecologist said he did not believe there is a risk in waiting (other than the possibility of a rupture and the need for emergency surgery ;)  Most of the time I pray I will not think about the cyst and the upcoming surgery because I can't do anything about it anyways at this point.  I have an appt with my sister's doctor in mid June in the town where I am moving so will be able to follow up when I get there.  What kind of symptoms did you have when you were waiting for surgery?  I had a hysterectomy in 1980 but kept both my ovaries.  The first time I was aware of this cyst was in late January when I had excruciating pain for about 12 hours.  In hindsight I think I'vee had a cyst for a long time because I would get mild to moderate pain in the same place from time to time over the past 10 years at least but just thought I was ovulating-and maybe I was.  I also would have problems with constipation and the doc told me to eat more fiber.  She also thought maybe some scar tissue from the hysterectomy was putting pressure on my bowel.  When they get in there I guess they will find out what is going on.  I have found great support from the ladies on this site and thank you for comments.  talk to you soon

Hi, my name is Lisa. About 9 months I went to my MD for a physical. She pressed on my pelvic area and it hurt. So she sent me for a sonogram. I like you was in shock when they told me I had a 10cm complex cyst. My ca-125 was 8. They said there was  a very small percentage that is was cancer. So I had my surgery at Sloan in New York a Cancer Hospital. I am 41 years  old. I was scared.I waited seven weeks before I  had the surgery because I wanted to see all my sons football games. I had a laparotomy, they removed left ovary and tube, the tumor and my appendix. I went in on Tuesday and  came home Friday. They would of kept me longer but when they decreased my pain medication I had to get out of there. I had an epidural no nausea or vomiting in the recovery room. The only problem I had was I couldn't urinate. So I told them I wanted a visiting nurse to come and catherize me. She came for two days and the anesthia must of finally wore off and everything went back to normal. I was up moving around at home in two days. I was driving in 4 days. For me having my mother in law over was more work it was hard for me to relax. She went home in seven days. For there on in I did alot of sleeping. I would drop my kids off at school and come home and sleep.I did this for at least two months.I was very tired.I had my surgery on Nov 8th. I had Thanksgiving at my house and then Christmas. I had two aunts die recently, one from ovarian cancer on my fathers side and one from breast cancer on my mothers side. So I thought I had a good chance of having  cancer but I didn't. How are things with you?

Hi stout
I just found out in April that I also have a 10cm complex cyst on my left ovary and that I need surgery.  The cancer blood screen was negative. I would be interested in hearing about your experience.  I am still a little in shock about the whole thing and don't really know what to expect.  To add to my stress, I am in the process of moving to British Columbia and have to find a doctor to follow up when I arrive.  My sister's family doctor will see me initially and refer me to a gynecologist. The gynecologist I saw here gave me the test results to take with me. I feel very healthy right now and as long as I eat small fruit/vegetable/grains/legume meals I don't have abdominal discomfort.  I still eat a little bit of meat but I have trouble digesting beef and pork.  I try to stay as active as possible to combat anxiety about this whole health issue.

Taking over the job of the right?  I am just guessing but wonder about the pain you have and the UIT, keep wondering if some nick or something caused the UIT.  Granted, lot's of things can cause those, I have had many but know why.  Any history of them?  MV

Welcome to the Forum Stout!
So anything on the bladder/uriters turn up on the US?  What other symptoms besides the left side pain shooting down your leg?  That's confusing seeing as your remaining ovary is on the right!  I can well imagine your frustration at this point!  Mary V
