should I have a hysterectomy due to elevated ca125

I have had heavy periods most my life . A vag US found another fibroid again same area.  Took ca125 twice . First time it was 63, second time at 25.  CT scan and Pap back normal.    I do have mild endometriosis.  Dr feels I should have it all just removed so no more worries of OVC.  Im 49 yrs old.  Am I a possible predispositon for OVC ?

I totally agree with Pam and Ireneo. Is there a way you can get a second opinion?

I had a radical (uterus, ovaries, cervix, tubes, etc,) hysterectomy at age 47. I had no other choice at the time, but if there was a way that I could have been treated without a procedure that sent me into instant "surgical" menopause....well, 8 years later, I can tell you that I would have tried to avoid that type of menopause at all costs.

Obviously, I am here 8 years later writing this, working full time, running a household complete with two fun-loving dogs, so I obviously have survived this type of menopause but it has been at a high cost emotionally, finanically, etc, trying to find out how I could feel mostly "normal."

Having said that, there are varying degrees of how a woman is going to handle a surgical menopause. They are not created equal. But, before deciding on this as the only option, I would look into all of the options out there.

Plus there are a few ways to treat fibroids besides hysterectomy. At age 49 you're just around the corner from menopause. I have a fibroid but it's not a problem. Now that I'm menopausal it just sits there. I would ask for another opinion as well.

Fibroids are not related to OvCa.  Why would you think there is a possible rpre-disposition o your having OvCa?

The CA125 is not a reliable disgonistic tool for testing for ovarian cancer, it is best used as a marker in women that have beein diagnosed.

Have you thought about another doctor for a 2nd medical priner.
