symptoms from ovarian cyst or fibroids?

Hi.  I am 41 yrs old. I have known that I have uterine fibroids for 6 yrs or so.  They are submucosal, one in the fundus about 3 cm or so, and a smaller one somewhere in the lower area.  They have caused symptoms such as irregular bleeding, spotting before and after periods, heavy bleeding first couple days of period, pain especially the first couple days of my period, and bloating/pressure and uncomfortableness, etc. I am single and have had pain with intercourse with a former partner [who was fairly large] a year or so ago). In addition, the edometrial lining is thick. I had the fibroids confirmed by ultrasounds in '97 and '00 (this one included a transvaginal scan).  Since then, I have had some pain on the right side, pain for the first time ever in my life during a pelvic exam on that right side a year or so ago, increased symptoms with more intensity, and a cervical polyp removed in office this May. This Sept '03, I had another ultrasound including the transvaginal one and in addition to seeing the fibroids, a mass was found in my right ovary.  It is about 3 cm or so in size and is stated to be a complex cyst, but possible to be an endometrioma as well.  I was sent for blood work to check my CA-125 and it was 68.  I have been referred to a Gyn Oncologist and have a consultation appt. in 2 days.  I have done a bit of reading and of course am concerned about ovarian cancer.  I am confused as to whether symptoms are from the fibroids, the cyst, or both.  I seem to be out of room for this post, so I shall post again with the rest of what I want to say.  Thank you.

Can you believe it's 2009 and this thread hasn't been answered yet.  I am going through the same issues and don't have an appointment with my GYN for a few weeks and so I'm scouring the net looking for answers.  This is what I've found... I hope it's helpful...

You are not the only one in this situation.  I am 26yrs and married with a loving daughter who's 4yrs old.  I first found out that I had small posted fibroids at the age of 22 when I became pregnant with my daughter.  Two years after I developed a cyst on my right ovary and it went away without treatment.  It took about 3months to vanish.  Last week I had a missed period and I developed an intense pain in my right side and I was admitted to the hospital.  They conducted a serious of blood test and all came back normal.  I am due for a scan today because the doctors are assuming that its an ovarian cyst.  I am pretty scared since my husband and I are trying for a second child, but I am a christian so my dependancy is upon God. I just wanted you to know that you're not alone.

Hi Eli2008,

I am 32 and I can totally understand where you are coming from.  My cycles are also painful and heavy.  The heavy bleeding has caused me to become anemic and fatigue.  In December 07 and Jan.08, my cycle lasted for a month.  I have fibroids with one being as large as a grape fruit.  Over the last year til now, I have tried several treatments from the pills, Zoladex(shots in the stomach) for 6 months and Lupron Depo shots in the hip.  None of these treatments have worked for me.  I too don't have any kids or in a relationship.  Last year I recently ended a 10 year relationship.  I just knew I would be married with kids by now, but unfortunately it didnt happen.  Surgery has been recommended, but my OBGYN states that it would help, but I will not be able to carry a baby full term.   So be strong!  Be Anxious about nothing ! I am a 33 year old female. I have never had any kids and I am not in any relationship right now. I have been diagnosed with a simple ovarian cyst on my left ovary and two fibroids measuring about 3.2 cm and 2.2 cm each. I ususally get horrible pms and after my period I get pelvic pains until about mid cycle. I have a lot of lower back pains as well. Clotting and heavy bleeding the first day of my period. Having my period is a night mare. I've been put on Gynera BCP and it has helped with the pms symptoms, cramping etc. I am still worried about my future fertility though but I am holding on and fighting these problems. Initially I was worried about cancer but now that I have had a transvaginal ultra sound which is not at all painfull and pelvic exams. I am not so worried after all.

I am a 24 year old woman.  I have had 3 kids.  My first was full term.  After she was born I had cinIII, which is severe acute dysplasia(step right before cancer) on my cervix.  I had surgery to remove that.  I had my second child, a girl, 9 weeks early, and my 3rd child, a boy, 8 weeks early.  After he was born I started having all these crazy symptoms, they kept sending me to gi doctors and specialtist.  I was told I had PID and IBS  and every thing else in the world.  In January I felt a mass in my right side.  In August I had an ultrasound, I have the same cyst I had over a year ago, it has gotten a little bigger 3cm.  I have every symptom of ovarian cancer and have had for about a year.  I also have endemitriosis and very irregular periods, like bleed for 3-4 weeks stop for 1-2 and start again.  And it has gotten worse.  Is it possilbe for me to have ovarian cancer at this young age?  My gyno is doing surgery on Oct 5th to remove it.  Has anyone here been diagnosed with ovca wtih such a small cyst and at such a young age?

I am 27 year old female that is having some unusual bleeding after climaxing that will only last for about an hour.  It is very noticable bleeding.  With the bleeding comes some cramping like I am on my period.  But after an hour the bleeding stops.  I am very scared and nervous and not sure what is causing this to happen.

I do not know what kind of cyst I have. I had a MRI, and also the ultrasound. That is the point they do not know or they do not want me to know.
The fibroids the two largest ones I read are the 'ugly' ones, the ones growing outside. They are the ones who can attach themselves onto other organs.
I am searching for answers, thats is why I lovee this board as so many here already have gone through so much and it makes you stronger but others support.
I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and asked him to put me on light duty, as when my menses come I bleed heavily. I have to 'change' the first couple days, eevery half hour. The longest is 45 minutes without 'changing'.
He looked at me as if I had seven heads and were covered with purple spots. I feel so embarresed when I am in the bathroom every half hour at least with a note I could say an excuse. I have been dealing with the heavy bleeding for a long time and am sick of it.
I never knew being a female could hurt so much.
Anyway, THANKS for the love, support and the helpful posts.

Thank you for your comment Sara.  Sounds like you have alot going on too.  I see the gyn oncologist tomorrow morning and am feeling scared.  I feel lucky that my new boyfriend that is in remission with lymphoma is coming to the appt with me.  He's been through the whole biopsy/surgery/chemo, etc and knows pretty much what I'm going through (except for the female stuff of course!).  It's amazing how things happen....were we supposed to meet?  :o)  Again, thanks for your comment.  Do you know what type of ovarian cyst you have?  Is it a complex cyst?

I have am ovarian cyst which is 2cm and mulitple fibroids one is 6cm, the other is 3cm and the other is 2cm. I also have endometrial fluid which is moderate. I seem to be at a loss as the doctors in my area seem to be uncaring or not knowledeable.
I wish I knew what to do. I though gain insight from this site from the strong women who are facing issues. I thank God for this site and his strenght. To the women out there keep on posting, you never know who you have helped.
