My oncologist is out of the country, and when seeing a onc doctor in her place, I was taken off navelbien because I was not responding and my CA-125 had jumped to 199.
He prescribed tamoxifenTamoxifen Tamoxifen citrate ( 20 gms.) taken dailyDaily combo Daily multiple for men 50+ Daily multiple for women Daily multiple for women 50+ Daily multiple vitamins Daily vite Daily-vite men's formula Daily-vite weight control until my next appt. with my regularRegular insulin oncologist (Nov. 17th).
After reading the possible side affects, stroke and cataracs to name a few, I am reluctant to take it.
I have been on various chemos. for three and a half years and have tolerated them well.
My question is do you think that I am making a mistake by not taking tamoifen? I have a catarac on my left eye that really needs surgery and my platlets are high.
Please excuse any spelling errors, and thank you for any imput that you can give me.
It seems so odd that a doctor would prescribe a drug that can cause cataracts when you have a cataract. I understand your reluctance. Instead of waiting until your appointment on the 17th I would give a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys call over to the office with your concerns. Don't wait for your appointment to get answers.
Don't know if the tamoxifenTamoxifen Tamoxifen citrate will help you, but I was on it (when my CA was up but nothing showed on a scan). It was easy to take. Take 10mg twiceTwice-a-day a day .. AM and PM. You will have less body aches by splitting up the dosage. It lowered my # ... within 6 months .. and then it started to rise again, but still NED, so stayed on it for another year. I really felt it held things in check .. but could not stop the "beast". I would go on it again if I ever get to be NED (no evidence of disease), I do think I had some hot flashes with it ..
