transvaginal ultrasound

My mother died of ovarian cancer. My sister has had numerous ovarian cysts, two of which were surgically removed. I know I should have annual tests, but I've been remiss the past few years & have only had CA-125 & exam once in the past 5 years. I resolved to get back on track this year, and had my exam earlier this month. This week I went for the CA-125 and a pelvic ultrasound.  During the ultrasound, the Radiologist/Tech suggested that I have a transvaginal ultrasound as well, which I did (knowing that my sister had them previously). Now I'm worried. Is it normal that the Tech would recommend another test without the doctor ordering it? I never had this test done before, but again, I've not been as diligent as I should so it's been at least 5 years since I've had an ultrasound. What would make the Tech decide a further test was needed? And, lastly, how long does it normally take for the OB/GYN to get all the results - and when should I expect to hear from her? I realize you don't know what the ultrasound showed, but just having some input from a professional would be very helpful right now. Thanks!
