I HAD A TRANSVAGINAL U/S YESTERDAY WHICH SHOWED A 12MM HYPOECHOIC CYST OR SOLID NODULE ON MY RIGHT OVARY. OF COURSE MY GYN IS OUT OF TOWN AND I AM EXTREMELY WORRIED. THE RADIOLOGIST IS RECOMMENDING A REPEAT U/S IN 10-12 WEEKS TO ASSURE RESOLUTION. FROM WHAT I AM READING,THERE IS A CERTAIN DEGREE OF PROBABILITY THAT THIS IS CA. SHOULD I BYPASS MY GYN AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A GYN/ONC? MY PRIMARY PHYSICIAN SAID THAT I SHOULD HAVE A CA125 TEST DONE IMMEDIATLY BUT MY GYN HAD SAID PRIOR TO YESTERDAY'S U/S THAT I SHOULDN'T HAVE IT AS IT WOULD "SEND ME OVER THE WALL WITH WORRY' AS IT CAN BE UNREALIABLE.PLEASE ADVISE. WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY THAT THIS IS MALIGNANT? THANKS

To mcr.
Last year I had an transvaginal u/s as well.  It showed a solid mass about the size of a grapefruit on my right ovary.  The radiologist recommended I waste no time having an MRI, 3 years earlier my sister at 44 passed away from ovarian cancer.  The MRI came back saying "most probable ovarian cancer".  You can imagine how my world was shaken.  I did the ca125 and it was negative, I'm so glad I did it.  I refused to believe this mass could be cancerous, I felt good, no weight loss, great appitite so I kept a positive mind and behaved as normal.  Four weeks later I had surgery and the mass turned out to be just a mass, oh it has a huge name which I don't remember but they removed it, my right ovary and tube.  The OBYGN who did the surgery also did a biopsy on everything else in there which came out fine also.  I'v had a history of problems with my period and for the last year they have been completely normal.  Well I get it every second month, but that's normal when you loose an ovary.  So don't give up or give in, espically to something as nasty as cancer.  Believe in the power of the mind and talk to your guides (or whatever your higher power is)
FYI-- My sister had no problems with her priod, she was however sick for a long time, the family tried to push her eveyday to go to the doctor and when she did her doctor said nothing was wrong (second opinons are so important)she was loosing weight, tired all the time and her skin started looking kind of grey, she had stomach problem and diarrhea often.  By the time they found the cancer it was too late and it spread everywhere.

thank you so much for your comment. So glad that everything was alright for you.Unfortunately I also have some symptoms of IBS which of course is worse now since I am so worried about this U/S.This was diagnosed years ago when those symptoms started and any gyn  problem was ruled out at that time so I hope that these symtoms (symptoms) are not now related to something worse.I think that it is just nerves. I am confident that everything will be ok.I think that if the radiologist was really concerned he would have suggested immediate treatment. I have great faith in God and trust that this will be ok. Thanks again..

I am 40 years old. I have had bloating (up one pant size)over past 6 mos, low grade fevers and body aches.  I had my annual pap one month ago.  My NP ordered  a transvag/pelvic US that revealed a 2-3cm follicular (?) cyst on my left ovary.  A CA-125 was done at the same time and it was 78 (norm <35).  My NP consulted with a gyn/onc who said a follicular cyst can elevate the CA-125 so just repeat the US.  (I have also had problems with infertility for about 12 years and wonder if I could possibly have endometriosis.)  We are going to do a repeat US this week to see if the cyst is gone, and if it is, then repeat the CA-125.  Does this seem like the best way to go?  If the cyst is gone and CA-125 still elevated what then?  Lap or PET scan?  My first US was done by someone who is not formally trained (OJT civilian in a military facility) which does NOT inspire confidence!  My 3yo daughter had hematuria that was ignored at the same facility earlier this year - we just complete 18 wks of chemo after a right nephrectomy for Wilm's Tumor.  I want to know the best course of action in my case! I am a wreck and I have to faith in the system!   Thanks for your time.  Lily05

Just thought that we  could use some good news. I had surgery last week and found out that the cyst was benign and is called a dermoid cyst. We don't always hear how things turn out for the participants here on the forum. There is hope out there for everyone and the majority of cysts are benign, so keep on fighting girls! Don't give up. My prayers are with all of you.

I am 43 & recently had severe low back pain radiating into upper back, tenderness in right abdomine, fever, tiredness, could hardly stand.  MD thought it was appendix, did CT appendix normal size.  Sent for US of ovaries, found the right ovary to have a dominate structure measuring 13x15x8mm,possible cyst (notes note completely clear, unsure)  Left ovary shows a hypoechoic component measuring 18x13x14mm.  Going to GYN for evaluation.  Does anyone know what these could be? Information on ultrasound findings are not easy to find on the net..  Thanks
