I had laparascopic surgery to remove the endometrioma as well as the ovary and fallopian tube to which it was attached. Down the page, from 7/28 etc., I posted my surgery experience in response to a question from jsdjeanne.
Hi Vicky,
May I ask what kind of surgery you had? This is all so new to me. I don't event know what an endometrioma is. sounds like a tumor as a result of endometriosis? Was yours benign? And- how do you feel now? I just want this to be over.
I am also fearful now that if I am newly pregnant, too pregnant to register on test, that having the MRI is not safe, but Dr and tests keep saying not pregnant.
A friend of mine nearly died from an ectopic pregnancy. She actually did have symptoms similar to yours - she stopped having her monthly cycle, had significant spotting, bloating, and pain, but the pregnancy test that she was given was negative. Her doctor, supposedly a well-known infertility specialist who'd been treating her for months, never once mentioned the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy. Finally she was taken to the emergency room and there the problem was diagnosed, and she was then rushed into surgery.
Of course, your symptoms are also somewhat like mine when I developed an endometrioma last year. I had the bloating, gas, missed cycle, and finally, significant discomfort in the days just before the surgery.
Thank you VIcki, The doctor said "abnormality" and made a distinction between it and the other cyst(s) I also have. I failed to mention in the last post that I have not had a period since July 1st, however some strange bloody discharge-very minimal- kind of darkish brown-red and a bit of white. I guess this may have been ruptured cyst???? Sorry for the gross details, but I guess this is a forum to discuss unpleasant topics.
I am sitting here at the computer so uncomfortable, as the slacks that fit loosely just a week ago are so tight on my tummy. I am so bloated. Feels like I am going to get my period any time but never do. I have also wondered about ectopic pregnancy since I have over the past 6 months been trying to get pregnant. Dr did not mention this as option, and, no home pregnancy shows positive so I dunno.
Is the abnormality a cyst or a solid tumor? Cysts generally have only a 1 to 2 percent probability of being malignant. I do not recall the same statistic for solid tumors; however, I did read a study that found over 40 percent of benign tumors imaged as having blood flow on the doppler ultrasound. The 'blood flow' ultrasound result is not necessarily a diagnosis of cancer. I am very glad to see that your condition is getting the immediate attention it deserves from the doctor.
