The survival rates are very difficult to perdict for anyone with OC. You have to factorFactor ix complex in age, stage, tumor type and it's aggressiveness and having a gyn/onc perform the surgery. There are womenWomen's way who were a stage 4 who are going strong 5 years out.
To me what is important is dealing with this disease and livingAdvanced care directives each day without cancer controlling me. Love your mom, I can tell you will be there as a supportSupport Support 500 for her. Thought are sent to both of you.
Keep in mind the stats are not current. I just met a womanWomen's way that was diagnosed 20 years ago. As rmarie said it really depends on so many factors.
Hello.. as the other girls have said... no one can predict anything with this disease... it is so unpredictable, so your Mum just needs to stay strong mentally, and get through the chemo as best she can, and see how it goes. My Oncol. has patients who have been around 12 and 16 years with Stage 3C. I was dx Stage 4 in Feb'04 and still going o.k.. From my point of view, it's bestnot to think about the 'what ifs' on this, but to grab each day and enjoy it. If you or your Mum dwells on the cancer, and it bothers you, then it's won..... so don't let the wretched thing win.
I hope you will stay in touch, and let us know how your Mum is doing with the chemo.
Best wishes and hugs...Helen...
I am stage IV and the best advice I can give is what my internist said..
When I started spouting statistics he stopped me and said"You are not a statistic you are a human being unqiue and different than all others." No one can tell you life expectancy. I am 57 and try to live each day to the fullest.. am going for chemo number 5 today... diagnosed April 2007.. one more chemo and then debulking surgery.. My diagnosis was made from exploratory surgery in April..
MY gyno oncologist liked the saying so much she borrows it for her patients... The ladies above me who have posted have given very good advice.. Love your Mom everyday....
