by crzyquilter, Nov 03, 2009 09:05PM
i am going to see an gynelogical oncologist in 9 days due to elarged uterus with a cyst inside, solid nodule on left ovary, pap test came back saying endocervical and or squamous metaplastic cells are present. oncologist office won't say anything other than wait till your appointment-however spoke with cancer treatment center they said 99.9 percent sure it is cancer based on the report results. i am no idiot i know you usually are not sent to oncolgist unless they suspect cancer- i am scared that i won't get the best treatment i have had ower back pain for months. abdomen been swollen for quite awhile-any advice 9 days seems like eternity need advice.

Nine days does seem long!  Depending on where you live and who is available I'm not sure what your options are.  I would first call the doctor and just tell them honestly that you are very worried.  Ask if there is any way you can get an appointment sooner.

If they can't give you an appointment sooner ask if there is another doctor who can.  Find out what other doctors are in the area and see if they can take you (be sure to check that insurance will cover).

I will say that my gyn/onc was going out of town and I had to wait longer than I wanted to for surgery.  I asked my gyn if there was another doctor who could do it sooner.  He said that there *was* another doctor, but that my doctor was much better and it was worth waiting for him to come back.  I did, and I don't regret it.  So sometimes it is worth waiting to be seen by a very good doctor - but it's always worth asking!  Ask around who the best doctors are and ask if there's any way they can take you sooner.

I know it's difficult to wait.  Hang in there!

You should be sent to a gyn oncologist, even if what you have is benign.  They have years of extra training and specialized experience, and you want one on your case if there's surgery involved.

If you fill out your profile a little more (including where you are located) that will help people respond accurately.  Plenty of peole have been in the position you're in, so try not to worry until you know what to worry about.

Good luck at your appointment.
