10cm complex cyst-vertical incision

by babypooh, Apr 28, 2008 12:39AM
Hi Everyone,
I have a complex cyst.  It keeps growing, but 2 weeks ago it was over 10cmx5cmx11cm.  I'm scheduled for surgery this Tuesday (April 29th) and I'm sooooooooooooo nervous.  I'm having a vertical incision though and that make me nervous too because I have read from a few people that their recovery took longer with a vertical incision.  Has anyone had both types of surgery that can compare vetical and bikini (c-section) incisions?  Does vertical really heal slower? Also, I haven't had a period in 3 years.  Does anyone think that the removal of my cyst would help me get my period back? I really want to have more babies (I have a 3 year old) and hope that they don't have to remove anything except for the cyst. I'm also worried that it's malignant, but I know the odds are on my side.  I'm also stressed out because soon after this surgery, I have to go under the knife again to have my gallstones taken out.  I found out only by chance when I had my last ultrasound for my cyst.  Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice. Good luck to all you ladies who are going through the same thing and/or having surgery soon.

I just wanted to tell you that i have a vertical incision and am today 8 weeks post-op. As far as the incision goes mine is 6 inches long and i had stitches which dissolved within 4 weeks. I am back to work and the incision site does not bother me all .Wishing you all the best with your surgery tomorrow.

I have had many incisions from many types of surgeries throughout my life.  Recovery doesn't have to be tough as long as you follow the guidance of your doctors and nurses.  It also depends on what shape you are in.  I had two different surgeries (I was cut across) for ectopic pregnancies.  One it took me 3 - 4 weeks to get back to work from and for the 2nd one after I'd been working out a lot I was back to work in a week.

I have had some cysts that took care of themselves in the past and when there was a cyst of that nature it did mess with my periods so if all goes well you will hopefully get your period back.

Good luck tomorrow.  We will all be thinking of you.

Trudie
