2nd cyst

Hi, I'm new here. I just had an MRI come back with an ovarian cyst number two on my left ovary. I am so upset bc the first one was such a huge ordeal (it was as big as a grapefruit and very painful). I begged my Doc to take the ovary out but he did not so here I am again. I am having back pain? My MRI also said that I had fluid on my uterine wall? I never heard of such a thing. I am not looking forward to more surgery. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thnx, happy new year!

Hi Inga,

I am so sorry to hear that you have another cyst.  Do you know what type of cyst you had the first time?  Some cysts like dermoids or those caused by endometriosis tend to recur.  Some fluid can be normal if you had a cyst or part of a cyst rupture.  Be sure to ask you doctor about it though.  Usually, fluid from more worrisome conditions like cancer cause a very large amount of fluid described as ascites.  This does not sound like your finding.

Write a list of all your questions so you can go through them with your doctor.  A key component of cysts is if they are simple (fluid filled) or complex (has solid parts).  The majority of cysts (both simple and complex) turn out to be benign.  But, any complex cyst runs a "slight" chance of being malignant.  The only way to know for sure it to have it removed surgically and biopsied.

If you find yourself facing a large (over 5cm), complex cyst, you should ask to be referred to a gynecologic oncologist for a consultation.  This would only be a precaution.  But, it is a smart move because several studies have shown that a woman's prognosis is much better if a gyn/onc is able to step in and complete the surgery if malignancy is found.  That said, it is only a very small percentage of woman who end up with malignancy. So, the overwhelming odds are in your favor that you have developed another benign cyst.

I hope it goes away on its own and you can avoid another surgery.  Sometimes, cysts do get better over time.  Welcome to the forum and please keep us posted on how you are doing!  :)

Hope-my first cyst was 10 cm and filled with blood. It also was in torsion. Spinning on the Fallopian tube. He shelled it out and now it is back-it's pressing on my bladder but I don't understand what this uterine fluid is about.? He MUST have not gotten it all when he shelled it out-I wish he had just taken the ovary. I already have three kids-who cares! I really don't want any more surgery but it looks like it's inevitable. I am also spotting like crazy and I have to pee constantly and I have low back pain. This one showed up in an MRI. What do you think?

Hi Tinabro, I have just read some of your posts, what hospital was you at the UK, it sounds like they treated you terribly.  Are you having another surgery? I know its the last thing you want, but I guess if you have 2 complex cysts they need coming out and this time the ovary with it so you have no more problems. I hope this is sorted for you soon and you start to feel better xx

Hi Inga

Im going through the same as you 5 months ago I had a 14cm cyst removed off my left ovary and it was an ordeal it had stuck my bowel and bladder down nearly 5 hrs in surgery, and in surgery they were meant to take both my ovaries out but left the right one in which whilst in surgery they pooped a cyst on the rt ovary without investigation

Well 2 months after surgery I knew they had returned again but my surgeon would not listen, I have now 3 cyst on my ovary 2 complex and 1 simple cyst all at 5cm each, and growing fast, 1 has just come within 2 weeks and grown to 5cm in that time, I was told they would go away on their own thats when i had 2, shock horror last week when they was another, I am so fed up of it and in agony and know how your feeling, Im a little scared as I have family history of ovarian cancer, hope all turns out well for you x

Hi Inga,

Sorry to hear you have another cyst, as Shelly describes this sounds like it could be a dermoid if that was what your last one was?  Sometimes they can grow back if not shelled out of the ovary properly.  I am having laportomy next tuesday to remove what they think is a dermoid, despite my age (34) I am going to ask him to remove the whole ovary and tube, as its caused nothing be anxiety and I dont want the chance of it growing back either.  Hope you get is sorted soon.

Yvonne
