3.8cc complex ovarian cyst

July 2009 I started with a lot of abdominal pain and couldn't pin point the exact point of where the pain was coming from.  I waited 2 weeks to go to the doctors hoping it would go away but didn't, so I went to my regular doctor and she suggested to wait a few more days and I did.  That was on a Friday and then on Monday I went back again, since the pain increased over the weekend. Then doctor ordered a ultrasound and it showed a cyst on my left ovary.  I had a partial hysterconomy in March 2006 which they removed my right ovary due to an enlarged cyst and a lot of irregular heavy bleeding and painful.  Now I am still having a regular menstrual cycle which doesn't make sense but my  new gyn says it is because the old gyn did not cut far enough on my cervix but of course here I am again in severe pain and a complex cyst on my left ovary.  The pain keeps getting worst.  So I got referred to the gyn and they suggested that it could go away on its own with 1-2 months, but here we are almost 4 months later and the pain is getter worse.  Gyn wanted me to follow up with another ultrasound in Sept and then have a follow up appt & hopefully the cyst will get smaller or go away, but it doesn't seem to be happening.  I called again 2 weeks after my appt because pain is at it's worst and they got me right in for another exam and ultrasound.  The complex cyst is getting bigger and during the exam caused a lot of pain. Gyn still wants me to wait again 2 more weeks for another ultrasound because he doesn't want to take me in the operating room due to be so young.  33 years old & I have 2 children 10 years old & 4 years old. I have already had my tubes tied that is when they found the enlarged cyst on my right then a partial hysterconomy which was an awful recovery.  I need to some advice on should I keep waiting for this complex cyst to go away or move on to another gyn.  The pain is awful and is making me miserable.  Please help me!!!

Oh I am so sorry. You really are caught in a catch 22.

Is there anything they can give you to help with the pain at least? I know a lot of gyno do the wait and see approach, and most cysts do go away on their own, but NOT to frighten you, some do rupture.

The decision is yours to make. I know my gyno is dead set against putting me in menopause early. I had my right ovary removed due to a 4.5cm complex cyst, and YES it hurt, but I was having other issues as well.

Good luck, I hope you find relief soon...I really do not know what else would help you any coming from me.

Take care.

It sounds like the doctor wants to save your remaining ovary by waiting for the cyst to resolve on its own.  He probably thinks that surgery will result in the loss of that ovary and he doesn't want someone your age to go into surgical menopause (or live on hormones for several years to come).

It is up to you whether you can ride out the pain in the hopes the cyst will go away or seek help elsewhere to remove it.  Or demand surgery from the current doctor if that's what you really want.  Many surgeons can remove cysts and save ovaries as long as the cyst hasn't damaged it.
