Benign Serous Cystadenoma W/Hemorrhage

I am 3 weeks post-laparoscopy-turned-laparotomy for a 7x4x4 left adnexal mass.  I had my left ovary and fallopian tube removed, as the cyst was growing (and damaging) inside the ovary.

Now that I am feeling better, I have some questions about the lab results.  My doctor said the mass was a "benign serous cystadenoma with hemorrhage."  I have gotten a little information on-line and do have my follow up appointment next week.  In the meantime, can anyone answer the following:

*What causes these?

*Is this type of tumor a precursor to ovarian cancer?  (My mother is an ovarian cancer survivor, does this make a difference?)

*Would the "hemorrhage" part refer to the tumor or the ovary?  And what would cause the hemorrhage?

*What happens if you don't have this type of tumor surgically removed?

Thanks for any and all comments!!!

I have researched the cause of ovarian cysts and all I can find is hormonal imbalances.
Plus of course there is also the general matter of not eating healthy, smoking, drinking and stress.
I think I have a serous cystadenoma as I don't produce eggs so options are limited.
Tried to ask my gynae this morning about this but he wouldn't speculate or answer my questions, I will just have to wait. Oh and he told me not to go on the internet, they just don't get it do they?
I have my cyst and left ovary removed on 20th December. Although doc is pretty sure it is benign not risking it. Lovely Xmas not!
I wish you all well.

i had one of those serous cystadenoma for two years. finally got it removed more than two weeks ago. my ob-gyn stated  that if i had waited any longer it would have developed into cancer. he said that my cystadenoma was the size of a baseball, and that it took awhile to get to it due to the fact that i had adhesions that he clear through first. i feel a lot better, but still kinda achy in the pelvic area. is this normal.i forgot to mention that my ob-gyn said my serous cystadenoma had clear fluid in it.

this is just my thoughts not necessarily advice ... i will start from the bottom up

tumor should definitely have been removed do u did the right thing in my opinion ... mine are similar but not the same ... i had stage 1c serous borderline tumors with non invasive implants ... my doc explained that serous tumors can go from benign to borderline to frankly malignant and said that having these types are almost always cured by surgery (up thru stage 3) so having this type is alot like winning the cancer lottery

hemorrhage refers to blood in the tumor (it got trapped in there when tumor formed)

and according to my doc ... yes this can develop into frankly malignant if left untreated

unfortunately the cause is unknown but they are currently investigating a link between serous tumors and pelvic inflammatory disease (presently chlamydia and another one i cant pronounce or spell) - this doesnt mean that is the sole cause they are just taking thorough histories to find out ... there is no relation to ovca and human papilloima virus

emedicine . com has some good infor on cystadenomas, cystadenocarcinomas, etc

now i am glad u are better but please find out the grade of the tumor and the stage from ur doc at the follow up ... it will help u direct ur research a little more

i am so glad u are better
god richly bless u
love
