Can a cyst disappear?

I all I had my 3rd transvaginal ultrasound this past Friday.  Previously I had a 2cm complex cyst on my right ovary.  The tech that did the ultrasound was the same one that did all of them.  She remarked that she could not find the cyst.  Can a 2cm cyst just disappear?  Previous to the ultrasound my doctor had thought that I should have surgery to see what is causing my pain.  If the cyst is gone I am not sure that we should proceed with the surgery.  I still have pain and on my other two ultrasounds the radiologist did make comments of possible edometriosis.  I am confused any input would be helpful.

Thanks to all!

I hope you are feeling better. I agree that you don't want to have surgery if you don't need to. It is not fun...that's for sure. If you end up staying in pain...and have given the wait and see approach plenty of time...and still don't know what is going on then you can always reconsider. The most important thing is to do what is right for you. For me personally...I had been hurting for well over 2 years...so it was time. I hope things work out for you. God bless...Lynn

Thank you for your reply.  I have decided to wait on the surgery.  If I do have endo I have had it for all of my 41 years so waiting a few more months probably won't make that much of a difference.  Time will tell.

Thanks again!

Cysts can and do go away. Sometimes quietly, and sometimes with much screaming. Yours being so small it could very well have dissapated without you even knowing it.  Drs generally don't even do surgery on cysts smaller than 5cm & given that one went away maybe the others will too with a little more time.  Surgeries are not something you want to go through anymore than you have to even if it is minimally invasive surgery.  I admit that the idea of endo is troublesome, but he only mentioned the possiblity and that doesn't sound like a very sure statement.  It's easy to want to agree when a Dr says you need an operation, after all they know more than we do, right?  Not always. Sometimes the wait and see approach is the right thing to do and I think you need breathing space right now.  Good luck

Last month I had to go to the ER for severe abdominal pain.  It seems that one of my cyst ruptered and there was still another there which I had to have removed.  It is very common for cyst to rupture.  However, if you are in a lot of pain, I would go through with the surgery...at the very least...your mind will be put to ease.

Good luck!

I too had a hemmoragic cyst on my left ovary at the first part of this year. My doctor had me wait three months to see if it would go away or get worse. Mine ended up going away. However I ended up with a large cyst on my right ovary that had to be removed, but that had nothing to do with the left ovary problem. Do you have any other indications of endometresosis?

Thank you so much for your reply.  I talked to my doc yesterday and she said to proceed with surgery is my call.  She said we could wait, but it is ultimately up to me.  At this point we would be going in and looking for endo because I still have pain on my right side where my ovary is.  My doc told me that endo typically doesn't show up on US or a CT scan as well.  I don't know what to do.

Thank you again!

I had a 6 cm hemmorhagic ovarian cyst. After finding it...doc gave it 6 weeks before follow up US. In 5 weeks...mine burst....wow...painful. Sure enough...no sign of it on the US the following week. I still had a hysterectomy shortly after b'cuz of the pain from an enlarged uterus and fear of endo. I was told that endo doesn't show up on US though and the only way to know was to go in and see what is going on. What does your dr think? Best of luck to you? God bless....Lynn
