Ok, I had assumed simple and fluid filled meant the same thing. Simple meaning not complex and did not have septations or solid components. In the end, my cyst was not attributable to ovulation.

When I discovered I had a cyst, my doctor said it was fluid filled.  So I asked if that meant it was simple.  I was told "no" that fluid filled and simple are two different things.

I think they call it simple if they can directly attribute it to ovulation (i.e. functional cyst).  If they think it is more than that, they stop calling it simple.

Isn't a fluid filled cyst also a simple cyst? Before I had my surgery, that was how my gyn described my cyst - simple, fluid filled. This was based on what he saw on the ultrasounds.

"Not simple" could mean one of several other types of cysts such as fluid filled, complex, or dermoid.  Encompassing likely means it has completely surrounded the ovary and that could potentially mean the ovary cannot be saved. The cyst is big enough that it needs to be removed and potentially the ovary will be removed with it.  We have several ladies here that have had multiple surgeries and even though your previous doctor may have said you cannot handle more, a good surgeon can still remove that cyst for you.  You may end up being referred by the gyn to a gynecologist/oncologist simply because they are more experienced surgeons.  I am sorry you are going through this and I know you don't want another surgery but that cyst has to go for your own wellbeing.
