For the first time ever this evening while watching tv with hubby I experienced a sharp knifelike pain on the left side where the cyst is. I screamed out from the surprising stab of pain...like someone stabbing me with an ice pick. Three more jabs followed so far tonight. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm really going crazy with the onset of all these new symptoms but this one beats all.
Sharp stabbing pain can definately be caused by the cyst. I have a 9cm complex cyst, and I have had sharp pains also. They can also cause lower back pain, bloating, constipation, etc. If the pain continues, call your doctor tomorrow and ask him for something for the pain. Also, try using a heating pad. I have found that it eases some of the pain. Will you have to have surgery for your cyst? Good luck, and I will be praying for you!
Thanks fungirl. I ran and got the heating pad as soon as I read your post and will be trying that. I am having surgery on April 10th to remove a complex cyst. At this point, I can't wait. I just want it out.
I occasionally had stabbing/sharp pains around the ovaries areas, to. They came all of a sudden and were very brief, but very sharp, like needle punching, tearing, or knife stabbing (when it's more steady sharp pain). To my frustration the ultrasound never detected anything. I don't know if my endometriosis adhesions could cause such pains.
I have frequent sharp, catching pains in my groin area (on the side of my cyst - the right side).
A couple of weeks ago, the pain was so sudden and severe that it literally took my breath away. It hurt so badly that I couldn't help but cry and scream, simultaneously. My husband was even scared. I couldn't put my right leg down on the floor because the pain was so excruciating. The intense pain lasted three to five minutes. I used a heating pad that night. It seemed to help a little.
I've been living it up on extra-strength Tylenol the past couple of days. Although a dull pain is still present, it is much more tolerable. I think the Tylenol has helped tremendously. I also think that taking Tylenol at night just before going to bed has helped me sleep (haven't been able to sleep well lately because of my pain). If you can't tell, I'm a big advocate of Tylenol right now. :-)
Wow. I used to get those stabbing pains all the time. After initial surgery for ovca the pain went away but now, some five years later, I've noticed that every once in a while I get a stabbing pain in the lower right quadrant. And it really does take your breath away. Is it possible to have cysts without ovaries? What else could this pain be? It only lasts for maybe a minute, then is gone. Could scar tissue do that?
Somehow when you know that others have experienced the same thing the panic comes out of the equation and it's easier to tolerate. It's the unknown that makes things that much worse.
I had those sharp pains, they can be excrutiating.
Even years after removal of the ovaries you can have phantom pain in the area where the organs were. Some women have nerve damage and resulting pain too.
i have a 6cm cyst on my right ovary and im getting really bad stabbing pain like being stabed with a knife ,. i dont know what to do i have seen my gp and she is no help to me at all. can any one help and also can i have surgery if it hast gone down it is a simple cyst? suzannah my hotmail ***@****
What is your doctor doing for treatment of this cyst? Are they having you wait a few months and then repeating the ultrasound? That is what they normally do as well as sometimes put you on birth control pills to see if it helps. If the cyst has not shrunk or resolved then they would look at laprascopic surgery to remove it. I'm not sure if the bleeding is due to the cyst or not. This is a symptom you should bring up with your doctor.

i've been having horrible shooting pains in the left side of my groin.. seems like it could be where my ovary is. Years ago, I had ovarian cysts that ruptured on my right ovary, and have since been on the pill to try to avoid the painful cysts. But for the past 4 months or so, I have very sudden, shooting/stabbing pains on my lower right side. It's always sitting down, and always completely out of the blue. It lasts for 5-10 seconds, and then completely subsides. Could this be related to an ovarian cyst? I don't know what to do. It happened the other day when I was driving and luckily no one was behind me.. coulda been bad! Has anyone felt this? Is this what you guys are suffering rom?
ok- i'm going to call my doctor in an hour when she gets in. i actually was in for an examine due to spotting about 2 weeks ago, and didn't even mention this pain, because honestly, it happens so randomly that i just forgot. i also thought it was more like a pinched nerve or something, it is a much different pain then i remember when i had the cysts. But maybe this is related to the spotting (the spotting has since stopped, but the pain still is happening). Regardless, I obviously should have this addressed.
I have this short, sharp, stabbing pain too. It comes and goes and ive noticed ive had it over the last 3 days. Ive actually just been down the docs about it but no joy and typical the Pains come back now im home :(
Is this serious then and something to worry about? Ive had it on and off for 2 yrs and been down the docs 3 times about it but they just told me to take pain killers. Any advice?
Lately I have been getting strong sharp pain in my left ovary it so sharp and painful it shoots up to my shoulder blade, I sometimes get it on my right side as well but definitely not as bad as the left side. I recently had a baby 4 months ago I know I have cysts and fibroids but they said they were very small. What should I do feedback and opinions please
I have gotten sharp pains in my side since I've had periods. When i was younger, i'd get them on both sides of me,but more like on my pelvic bone, maybe ti's the nerves being bothered? rather than in the front abdomen area. now that i'm 28, for the past few years, i onyl get the pain on one side, im assuming it's ovarian cysts, but what can they do for ti? what will they do? im calling the dr. today because im so sick of the pains. they are always sharp, stabbing pains in my right pelvic bone area a day or two before i start my period. plus been having 2 periods a month the last few months.
