Chronic pelvic pain 4 years and still going

by dianeruane, Jun 24, 2004 12:00AM
I have had a hyst 4 years ago and left both ovaries, the vaginal hyst took 5 1/2 hours.  I felt great after the surgery and went home.  8-10 weeks later after sexual relations with my husband, pure pain, 10/10 went back to same Dr.said something hanging down but didn't know what it was, said I probalbly had an infection and wanted me on antibodics.  Changed Dr's OB?GYN exploratory lap, adhesions and left ovary shrunk so taken out. Thing hanging flopian tube taken out. Next Dr. Urology, still in awful 6/10 pain.  Laporotomy thinks suture.  Nothing.  Pain continues.  Moved, new Drs. DX.  Interstial Cystis.  Pain continues. The pain is constant and really painful after I urinate, the pain goes to both sides of lower back near kidneys. Sex is out of the question due to painful intercourse. This Dr. orders CT scan.  Results as follows. Complex fluid-density mass of the R ovary. suggesting 2 cystic components with the larger measuring up to 5-6 cm. plus
A small left adrenal mass measuring 1.5x9mm and A small 6mm sublpeural nodule withing the right lower lobe of the lung.
Question:  Could these things be related?  Could the cyst on my ovary be the problem to all my pain?  They want to do surgery to take the ovary is this the best course?  I did a 24 hour urine and blood test, plus another CT of the adrenals.  Should I have the CA-125?  What other test are out there?

Hi Diane,

My friend has something that sounds just like your symptoms.  We are desperate, as I know you are, to find a diagnosis.  She is practically bed-ridden at age 27.  She has had endo ruled out, and her tests all come back normal.  Her left side seems to be obstructed, however, and docs cannot get into her left ovarian vein.  After trips to the Mayo Clinic, Cedar Senai, UCLA, etc., she is still undiagnosed.  I am writing in hopes that you have had better luck/doctors, and might be able to shed some light on this terrible condition.  If you have any insight, I would greatly appreciate anything you can offer in terms of advice!
