Complex ovarian cysts? how are they different?

How are they different from functional ovarian cysts? A little background I have kept small cysts on and off for year in May of this year I went in and had a small (1.7 cm) cyst on my right ovary and was told it was a normal, functional cyst. Also, my uterine lining was very thick almost double it's normal size (12 cm). So agaist my wishes I went on micronor which is the mini pill to help break down the lining. I have been having increased pain on the right side every since then so I went back in for another ultrasound yesterday. Good news is that my uterine lining is back to normal (4 cm) and I can go off the pill. Bad news is I now have 2 cysts on my right ovary, each around 2.4 cm's and I was told they are complex cysts. The ultrasound tech also said she said "debris" around or near the cyst? I have no idea what this means. I talked to the nurse and she says these cysts are no big deal but I disagree. I am in constant pain and my abdomen stays swollen, I have to urinate frequently, whole right side hurts all the way from my ribcage down and even my ribcage hurts like it's bruised (dont know if that's related to the cysts or not). Do I have any reason for concern with this cyst? I go back in a week for my yearly pap and I'm going to talk to the doctor face to face instead of communicating through a nurse. thanks for any advice you may have and if you've been in a similar situation I'd love to hear about it. I'll take any help I can get :)

Complex cysts are a little more concerning than simple cysts and should be removed.  They are still more than likely benign but it is important not to ignore.  Do take a look at at the health pages (top right) for descriptions on types of cysts and symptoms.

Complex cysts have septations and or/solid components in them. Simple cysts just have liquid inside.

I have one that was discovered a couple of weeks ago - similar to your size - 2.3 cm. I need to go back in 4 weeks now to repeat US to see if it's still there. Waiting is driving me crazy....
