Concerned about dermoid cyst please help

I just had 2 ultrasounds done in the past 2 months. My doctor still hasn't told me what it is definatly. She thinks it might be a dermoid cyst almost an inch big. I'm suppose to have another ultrasound done on the 29th and a confence with my doctor. Why am I dragging this procedure on?Is it normal to have 3 ultrasounds? I feel like she's not taking this seriously. I'm only 19. I've been told to make sure I have it removed to save the rest of my ovary. I'm alittle on the nervous side. I also have pain on the opposite side?Is that normal? How long is recovery usually?Should I get a second opinion?!?!

8mm is very small. Most cysts are benign and go away on their own. You do not want to have surgery unnecessarily since it can cause its own set of problems. There are the immediate risks of surgery as well as the possibility of developing adhesions which can cause problems even years down the road. And there are too many cases where the ovary is unnecessarily removed along with the cyst. The ovaries are essential our whole lives for producing health promoting hormones so you do not want to lose an ovary or ovaries unless it is necessary.

Monitoring via ultrasound is actually the "standard of care" for most cysts.

I have a 8mm ?possible  dermoid cyst bilateral Dr. told me to just keep an eye on it with Ultrasound follow up in 6 months.  Shouldn't it be removed while it is small.  Why can't they tell exactly what it is.  I was told it is not cancer.  But  I just want it out.

I had a 12cm x 10cm dermoid cyst on my left ovary.  I was really scared as well.  But my doctor told me that dermoids have only a 5% chance of being cancerous and not to worry about it.  I have my left ovary removed 8 weeks ago today.  I feel MUCH better now than I did before my operation.
Yes u have to have it removed because it is a type of cyst that will not go away on its own, it will continue to grow.  Surgery is scary but leaving it in is scarier.  The sooner the better and the smaller it is the easier it is removed.  I had alot of anxiety about surgery (and about not waking up also) but it was no so bad.  I was put out and the next thing I knew I was waking up.  Try to not have too much anxiety about it, (easier said than done) but these kind of operations are very routine for gyno's (mine did 4 removals the day he did mine)

I have to have a dermoid cyst removed and i am so scared i suffer anxiety and panick dissorder too and fear anathetics and things going wrong, the gyn said he will do it key hole but always a risk they may not beable , my friend had a cyst taken away and lost loads of blood a few hours after op and had to go back to op theatre, is this common i am soooooooo afraid i wont wake up, sorry i worry just to much but need to hear your experiences please.
i was rushed in hospital in agony they then found it on ct then did a transvaginal and said its a dermoid, could i get cancer with it? the strange thing is the pain just stopped suddenly then came a few days later then went again (strange i know) just went for my second transvaginal ultrasound today and they said it got a bit smaller so i dont get why they still want to operate? has anyone had one removed?

I have just had a dermoid cyst removed. You should really ask to get a CT scan, because that is what determined what my mass was. An ultrasound cant tell what a Dermoid is...I dont think, because they had me do a CT scan. I would get it removed because it can grow as big as mine. Mine was 11CM. I kept telling my mom since I was 17 that I was having pain in my ovaries, but she always told me it was my imagination since I have really bad anxiety, so I worry way too much. 4 years later, I was having blood in my urine, and found out about my dermoid tumor. I actually kept a picture of it, if you would like to see it let me know. My email is ***@****. I had it removed axactly two weeks today. Good luck with you!

Hello, Its great to find this forum.
I have a question about cysts in general. I have a complex cyst on my right ovary that appears to have been there for about 2 years. My OB-GYn isnt sure what kind of cyst it is (endometrial, dermoid etc.) this is all new to me, she ran a CS-125 which was normal. Now she gave me the choice of waiting and watching it, or going in laparoscopically and check it out, drain it, biopsy it etc. I have the lapsroscopy scheduled for a month from now. is this a good idea? I am 31 and want children. I have no pain or symptoms, just a few irregular periods about 8 months ago, nothing since. Ultrasound showed it was 5 cm, and shrinking, but only a tiny bit. Any ideas??

No, you would definetly need to get surgery to get the dermoid taken out. I have a 3cm dermoid also, and its suppose to be a very simple surgery that can be done by laposcopy.

hi everyone, i've been reading thru this site for sometime now.  I had an ultrasound done 6months back and was detected with a small fibroid and clear ovarian cyst.  the gyn said its not a problem and i can normally have kids but without luck.  yesterday i went for an ultrasound again, and detected a dermoid cyst of 3cm and the fibroid is grown to 3cm.  i'm asked to go in for a surgery.  Can anyone advise me what to do coz i'm nervous about this.  Can anything be done without a surgery?

Yeah, thats definetly not right. Just from the first ultrasound done transvaginally they should know if its a dermoid or not. But if it is a solid mass with calcifications in it on your ovary then more than likely it is a dermoid. I would definelty go somewhere else to get an ultrasound done. The first time I got scanned by an experienced ultrasound tech transabdominally, they knew right away I had a dermoid. So you defineltly shouldn't have to be going thorugh all this. Get a second opinion. But I'll be going through the same thing so keep me posted on to whats going on.

All 3 ultrasounds were done transvaginally. That's why I'm confused. I'm an x-ray tech anf I work with ultrasound all day and never seen a patient have to go through this. They said it's a solid mass with some type of glow, which made them THINK it's a dermoid. How do they not know by now?Should I get another doctor or go to my next ultrasound on the 29th of this month?

I'm actually going to school for ultrasound now, so what is probablly happening is that they are not sure if it is a dermoid that they are seeing. Because on ultrasound    a dermoid can look very similiar to bowel. Did they do a transvaginal ultrasound also??? If they did and also did 3 ultrasounds, I would definetly go somewhere else to get an ultrasound, because by then they should definetly know what is going on. I was in school last week and just discovered that I have a 3cm dermoid also, and I have been scanned plenty of times and it hasn't been noticed until now, its something thats just so easy to miss. So you need to make sure the person scanning you knows what they are looking at.

I have to have my right ovary removed on the twentynineth of this mo. My Gyn did an ultrasound and the growth has almost filled the ovary. She's only removing that one. But both ovaries hurt too.Sometimes I have two periods a mo. Sometimes it's every three wks.She did an A125 test that came out negative. But I'm still worried. It's too late to get a second opinion.BTW, I'm almost 49.If I were you, I would switch drs., if it isn't too late.
