Dermoid cysts

About 6 months ago a dermoid cyst was seen on my left ovary. I didn't have insurance at the time and was finally able to go back in for follow up last month. At that time, during an ultrasound 3 cysts were found on my left ovary with one over 5 cm in the center. A mass was seen on the right side, but the doctor thought it was probably my bowel. She recommended removing the left ovary with a follow up ultra sound today. I went back in today and there is another cyst on the right ovary. The doctor is struggling with removing all of the cysts or waiting until after I have another baby to remove the cysts. She was concerned that during the removal she might damage the right ovary, but was concerned with not removing the cysts due to possible cancer.  I'm 27 years old and I do have a 3 year old. I don't know which path to take. My doctor is getting opinions from the 3 other doctors in her practice, but I'm really nervous. Any ideas?

I would like to hear other's opinions on this issue too.  I have 4 large dermoids/cystadenomas on my left ovary and one on my right.  The cyst on my right ovary was discovered when I went in for a pelvic exam to get a rx for Clomid (TTC #2).  Thanks goodness my dr doesn't write out the script w/ doing an u/s first.  It could have seriously made my situation worse.  She decided to monitor and when I went back after an annovulatory cycle, she found one fo the cysts on my left ovary.  She referred me to the top RE in my city and he discovered 3 more cysts on my left ovary.  I have a laproscopy scheduled for Nov 18th and the only fears I have is that he will have to switch to a laprotomy and that he will have to remove my ovaries.  My doctor is confident that he can remove the cysts and that I will have not problems conceiving after that.  I asked this in another post but I wanted to know do you have to consent to them removing your ovaries before hand or do they remove them without asking?
Mhamel- really hope your dr has comes up with a great solution to your situation and that you're able to conceive baby #2.  Good luck!

I'm sorry you're going through this.  When I had my cysts I just wanted the darn things out of me and wanted to know the pathology NOW.  I am 46 and don't have the additional children issue.  I'm glad your doctor is getting the additional opinions.  I have heard of some ladies having problems getting pregnant with cysts and not sure if a dermoid has this effect or whether it would affect the pregnancy either.  Good luck with this very hard decision.  Just so you know I am the co-community leader of the ovarian cyst forum so do come on over and ask us your questions.  There is a lot of experience in this area there.
