Draining ovarian cyst on its own? Why does it smell?

I have PCOS, and my cysts tend to smell when they drain.  I can always tell when one drains because (1) it doesn't have endometrial lining (the specks in the blood), (2) pain for a few weeks until it "pops", (3) major mood swings, (4) the SMELL.  The biggest issue for me is the smell.  It stinks SO BAD! It smells like rot. Is this the case for everyone else?  I can't see my gyno for another few weeks, so I'm stuck with a draining stinking cyst.  And the blood is "old". It's dark reddish brown.  Is this normal? Does anyone else have this?

qp, I really would not wait.  It sounds like you've got an infection, and you really don't want it to evolve into pelvic inflammatory disease, which BV can do if untreated.  Don't wait "another few weeks," find a doctor who can see you now.

Smelling like rot is not OK, it sounds like what women who have BV report the smell as being like.  Has your doctor ever swabbed you for BV?
