Dry Eye?

Hello there,

I had a 7cm cyst removed from my right ovary back in July (although remnants still remain as it was 'de-roofed') and I have noticed i wake up in the mornings with a dry right eye. I have had this dry eye for about a year now and found something on the web about how this may be connected to ovarian cysts? Has anybody else heard this? Thanks.
Nina

Dry eyes can be a problem for perimenopausal and menopausal women.   I am sure a doctor can probably explain to us the exact hormonal implication, but I  personally do not know that much about this condition!

I had my left ovary removed in 2004, and since that time I have suffered from chronically dry eyes.  I have discussed this with my doctors, including an eye specialist.    The hormonal change is what they feel is responsible as no other conditions have been discovered.    For my personal case, thyroid was not a consideration as I have my thyroid levels (TSH, FreeT3, T4) monitored due to a family history of the disease (on both sides, oh joy!)

The only thing that I can do is to make certain I clean my eyes gently but well in the morning after using eye drops.  I also carry eye drops with me...in my purse, in my hiking pack, in my boat, in my truck, etc.

It would be a very good idea to take this issue up with an eye care specialist to make certain there are no other problems.  And,    ask your doctor to check that thyroid function for you.

Hi!  I haven't heard this but have heard of ovarian cysts being related to hypothyroidism.  Hypothyroidism has dry eyes as a symptom.  So quite possibly!
