Endometrioma

Hello. I was dx w/endo 2 yrs ago. Recently found out I have an endometrioma on each ovary w/one in the middle as well. My dr wanted to do lupron BEFORE surgery. Has anyone ever heard of this? The cysts are 4cm and 6cm so I am concerned about losing my ovary (we still want children).
Now, I have been bleeding for 2 weeks and my dr says poss adenomyosis.
Please share any info you may have.
Thanks.

Thanks for the thoughts Kasie/Chloe. My dr said the lupron may help with the bloodflow before the surgery. Although I am yet to find anyone else that has done this. My research has shown that it does not shrink endometriomas. My research has also lead me to NOT want to do this because of all the horror stories I have read. I know it can help some, but I don't have any pain and it doesn't seem worth the risk. My reg OB doesn't want to do surgery again because of the risk of scar tissue, etc since we still want to have children. Right now I just want to stop bleeding!! Thanks again!

Hi and welcome to the forum.  It was suggested that 2 years ago that I take the Lupron shots.  NOT knowing anyting about this drug, I went to have the prescription filled.  Our insurance would not cover it, so it was going to cost me 650.00 per shot!!  Well, I decided to go home and research this drug and what I fould was scary.  I highly suggest that you do the research BEFORE you agree to take this shot.  It does help with endo., but it also has some really bad possible side effects.  I hope it is possible that he can go in and just remove the cysts.  PLEASE, PLEASE, do your research so you can make your own informed decision.  Good Luck, and keep us posted.

Hugs,
Kasie

HI there
I had extensive endometriosis - complete w/ endometriomas.  I did have to have them surgically removed (one was almost 7cm).
I did not go on lupron but that may have been because I was done having children and didn't care if they needed to remove my ovary etc.
I ultmately had a hysterectomy but again this was my choice because the endo was so bad and fertility wasn't a priority for me anymore.
I'm not sure if your provider wants to see if the lupron helps shring the endometriomas............
Did you ask him/her why this was his recommendation?
