Enlarged uterus with left ovarian cyst

I have had three sonograms in the last 7 months.  I have an enlarged uterus with heterogeneous myomtrial echotexture and an enlarged left ovary with a 3.0 cm cyst. My cyst has grown from 2.3cm ( the first sonogram) to 3.0 cm ( the most recent sonogram from last week). Th reason for this last sonogram was to see if the cyst had burst because I was in excruciating pain for a few hours, then the pain went away to a now constant ache on the left side. I have a constant dull ache and I have had it for weeks.  My MD is being cautious and is going to have me repeat the sonogram again in 6 weeks....should I be worried?  I just keep having sonograms and things just keep getting bigger. I need some advise on this.  Anyone??

Thanks for the info.  I neglected to inform you that I'm 45, my grandmother and aunt died of ovarian cancer.  I think removing the cyst my be the best thing to do under the circumstances.  I have never had surgery, but the worrying is getting to me. I'll talk to my Gyn....THANKS

Thanks for clarifying.  It's hard to understand the lingo doctors use.  It's still concerning that there's no solid explanation for the enlargement and that the cyst is growing and still being just monitored.  For piece of mind, surgical removal might be the better solution now.

It is a complex cyst.  My gynecologist is the one ordering the sonograms.  The uterus did not show any fibroids in the ultrasound.  The uterus is about 10 weeks in size. I had a biopsy done on the uterus 6 months ago and it came out negative. I am just not feeling well and I'm cramping most of the day, especially in the evening.  It is not keeping me up at night though.

Do they know what type of cyst this is?  At 3 cm it is not that big yet but that does not mean it cannot cause pain.  Also, the uterus sounds like it may have some fibroids present which may or may not be adding to your discomfort.  Cysts usually resolve in one or two menstrual cycles and if they are still present for an extended period beyond that, it is less likely they are able to resolve on their own. Are these follow ups being done by a gynecologist or another type of doctor?
