Incision/ Scar pain

Is it normal to have a very sore scar of the incison after a laporotomy. The last few days i have noticed that my incision site has be pretty sore to the touch and my stomach seems slightly swollen. I don't know whether this was the result of over excercise but i didn't do much of anythingout of the ordinary. Should i call my doctor i don't think it is that serious but i just want to know if anyone has experienced anything like this before.... thanks for any advice :)

I did have pain around my incision for a long time following my surgery.  However, swelling did not increase after the surgery.  My stomach was somewhat swollen after surgery and took a few months to completely go down, but the swelling never got worse during the healing process.  If you do too much too soon, you do run the risk of delaying healing and even of getting a hernia.  So, if it persists, I think you should call your doctor.  Don't worry about overreacting.  Sometimes infection can cause pain and swelling so you don't want to ignore it!

Take care,

Shelly
