Is having dermoids a hereditary

by starenergysavers, Jun 16, 2009 07:57AM
I was diagnosed with my first dermoid at age 13.   Removed and then later on removed about 12 more since.  I now have children and my daughter at age 11 had her first dermoid and the doctor said this is a freak thing and that I did not pass this to my girls.  Yesterday, my 18 year old had her first dermoid removed and I am beside myself scared that my 9 year old will be coming soon.  I was so very fortuate to get great doctors to help me have the 4 children I have since I was left with 1/4 of an ovary and 1/2 of one fallopian tube left.  I just would like to know if anyone else has had this happen or are we just unlucky with this in mind?

Hi, I had my first dermoid at 12 and now have another at 30 (no kids) on my remaining ovary and trying to have kids. Wish I had a good doctor like those that helped you. But noone else i my family has this i.e mum or aunties, I don't have sisters. So I am not sure its always hereditary.
