Is it normal to have a bleeding after a Laparoscopy procedure for Ovarian Cysys?

Hi everyone! Nice to meet you! I recently had a laparoscopy procedure done last Thursday on April 8th, 2010. The doctor removed 10.2 cm chocolate cysts/endometriosis on my left side and 3 cm chocolate cysts/endometriosis on my right side. It is been one week since the procedure.

The doctor told me to bed rest for two weeks. I have been staying home since the surgery. However, I have been walking around the house, going up and down the stairs and do some minors activity such as washing dishes, pick up trash and etc.

Thursday April 15, 2010, blood is coming out of my private area. I do not know whether it is my menstruation cycle or the bleeding from the recovery period. Last month, my period start on March 23, 2010. I called the doctor and ask whether it is normal to bleed? The nurse says that it is normal. It is part of the recovery period, as long as I don't change the pad too much (such as every 10 minutes) then I am ok.

I need another opinion. I am curious whether it is normal or not. I feel no pain at all. It feels like a period, but I am not sure whether it is a period or not.

It is also important to remember that when you had your ovary removed, it caused your hormones to go wacko.  It is a normal part of the healing process because of that.  It could take your hormones a few cycles to settle down and become normal again.   Doing too much does not help.  You need to give your body plenty of time to rest and recover.  Keep in mind that just because we look healed and feel healed on the outside, our insides are still trying to settle down and heal.  Hope you both have a great, fast recovery!

Hi Lil226, mkhristine, bhanu26

Thank you very much for your answer and opinion. I feel much better after reading your comments. I thought I might have an infection inside my body. But I will certainly call the doctor again on Monday and ask her. If necessary, I will move the date of my appointment forward to Tuesday or Wednesday instead of Thursday.

Mkhristine,
we did go through the same thing... thank you very much for sharing :) I really appreciate it. And regarding the hot flashes, I never had them.

thank you

You and I are going through the same thing.  I had my laparoscopy April 5 to remove a 10.5 cm cyst, only on one side, on the fallopian tube.  I have been doing the same activities as you.  Today was the busiest day.  I was up a lot doing dishes, up and down the stairs a few times, helping with dinner.   I have had some cramping this evening.  Then suddenly I had brown spotting and then bright red bleeding.  I had some bleeding and then very light spotting after the procedure for a day or two, but it has been gone until now.  I am wondering if I just did too much. Like you, I started my period on March 23, so it could be an early period.  I am premenopausal, but I had heavy hot flashes all day yesterday and then again this morning.  What I am saying is that I guess all this is normal since we are both experiencing it.

Have you had any hot flashes?  I see the dr. next week so I will ask then. I am reassured that your gyn office said bleeding is normal at this point.  I am guessing it is because the interior wound is still aggravated and so oozing a bit.  Either that or it is the period.  If it's not my period, I take it that our bodies are saying "Stop doing so much!"

Good luck!

Hello,

I had a laparoscopy on 3/29/10 to remove endometriosis from the cul-de-sad uterus area.  When I was in the recovery room right after the surgery, i was already bleeding and had a pad on (which one of the nurses must've done before I woke up from the anesthesia)... so I'm pretty sure it's normal to bleed after a laparoscopy (and I was bleeding quite heavy, too).  this went on for 3 days only.

I'm not sure why you only started bleeding 1 week after the actual surgery, but if you've called the doctors office and they said it was normal, I would hang tight for now unless it gets worse, of course.  You must have a post op appointment coming up soon.  Be sure to run all your concearns by your doctor.

Best of luck!!!
