Just diagnosed...

I am post opp 9 wks of Complete Thyroidectomy and a Parathyroid Tumor removel...   2 weeks after my surgery my abdoman felt very tender, bloated and I had sharp pains in my ovaries, especially the left side.

I had a pelvic exam 2 wks ago and was sent for an ovarian ultra sound.  My doctor called me today and said that I need to see a specialist because the ultra sound showed that I have 2 - 4 cm cysts on one ovarie and 2 - 3 cm cysts on the other ovarie, YIKES !  I am a bit concerned...  Is there any connection, between the two conditons, for the Thyroid and Ovaries are both a part of the Endrocine System?

Hi,
You know, it's funny.. not funny ha ha , but strange.. A few months ago we had sort of a survey on here and just about all of us that have or have had ovarian cysts, also have thyroid problems. Hypothyroid mostly. Now, granted, this was not scientific at all, but it seems coincidental to me./
I wouldn't worry too much about the cysts. They are quite small and what may happen is that your Gyn. may suggest they be monitored for a few months. After that , they may discuss removal if they don't shrink. Now, cysts are very very common and 95 % benign. They are really part of our cycles and sometimes don't "disappear" as they should. There is a lot of good information in our "Health Pages" at the top right of this page. It has a lot of good information about cysts.
Try not to worry .. Let us know what your Gyn. says about them..

I'm not an expert on this by any means.

All I know is I have never had health problems whatsoever.

I got a huge ovarian cyst on my right ovary and at the same time, got all kinds of weird thyroid problems. Now, I have a large cyst that I'm waiting on surgery for and I also have a goiter that I started taking medicaiton for.

I asked my family doc if there is a relation and she says no, but I think she must be wrong.

I've heard a lot of other stories of women going hyprothyroid or having antibodies while dealing with a cyst as well...it HAS TO be related, right???
