Laparascopy - stupid gas bubbles!

Hi All,

Had my laparascopy yesterday and it was a breeze compared to my lapratomy in Janaury!

I'm sore and have the infamous gas bubbles and bloating that everyone warned me about.

I've tried walking and stretching and massaging. Any other ideas? It seems like all the bubbles are stuck under my right ribcage.

What exactly does Gas-X do? Should I take it? I obviously don't want it to just stay stuck in there, I want it to come out. Will Gas-X dissolve it or make it come out?

Thanks so much for your help again!
-Kelly

P.S. Won't know about my biopsy results until the 26th...fingers crossed!

I found peppermint tea helped with the bloating, although it doesn't help with the pain unfortunately.

Hi Kelly,
I don't have any good ways to get rid of that pain but if it makes you feel better, my gas pains went away 2 or 3 days after my surgery so they should be gone soon!

Irene is so right about the problems not being in the intestinal tract.  I was very fortunate and didn't have the problem, but I have heard that heat also helps..Perhaps one of those little beanie bag things that you can heat in the microwave (but only to get it warm.. not too hot)

I'm not sure GasX will help since the air is trapped outside the intestines. They blow up your abdomen so they can look around. It's going to take time for the body to absorb that air again.

I did a lot of walking (as much as I could considering all the tenderness and pulling). I also would lay on one side or the other just to get the air to move to a new location. If it's on your right side, lay on your right so some of it will migrate to the left. Spread it around a bit. I was fortunate to not have too much gas this time round compared to the first lap I had years ago.

A week from now you'll be feeling pretty good. Hang in there.
