I have just recently (5 days ago) had one of my ovaries removed along with the fallopian tubes by laparoscopy. It was surrounded by a number of cysts with one of 7cm wide. The procedure went well and I am back home.
I really wanted to know how long I should expect the recovery to take.
The other thing that is really bothering me is the pain that I am getting all around my abdomen and right up to my shoulders, I understand its an after effect of the gas used during the surgery, but I wondered if anybody can recommend any cures.??
Typically two weeks for laparoscopy recovery. Some internal healing will still be occurring beyond that time so try not to overdo it.
Post-op gas pains are a real nuisance. Walking (slow pace) is still the best way to get the gas moved. Gas-X tablets (Simethicone) help sometimes (sometimes not at alll). Most gas is trapped in the abdominal cavity, not really in the digestive system. Some have used heating pads to alleviate the discomfort. Ginger tea is another often-suggested remedy. Avoid any foods or beverages that could add to the problem (no carbonated drinks).
I hear ya on the shoulder pain. I'm 6 days post-op and it's mostly gone now. I think that pain bothered me more than the abdominal pain! Heating pads helped. Sleeping on my back with my head and shoulders slightly elevated helped. (I couldn't sleep on my sides at all.) And of course pain meds helped.
Forgot to mention. I read an interesting article about the shoulder pain. It says the pain is from irritation of the phrenic nerve (which feeds the diaphragm). http://www.hcgresources.com/shoulderpain.html
I had 2 incisions plus 1 for the drain!! Had op last thursday and have to say the wounds are healing well not too much discomfort and today the gas pain isnt quite as bad last night I slept thru for the first time. I do feel completely washed out though but better than I thought I would. Been told to contact doctor in two weeks just to check that all is ok. Will feel better when I know for sure that there is nothing suspect in biopsy. Told at hospital no follow-up so i'm hoping thats a good sign. How did your treatment differ to mine?
I'm six days post op too and I havent been able to sleep on my sides(a pain as i always sleep normally on my side). But last nite I slept thru and the pain is getting less and less. Have to say the scar sites healing well, will be going back to docs in 2 weeks to hopefully be told e'thing ok. Hospital didnt tell me much only what they did and that I didnt need a follow up. What was your experience of your treatment and info given like??
