Large mass with ascites - can it be benign?

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed last week with a 20 cm complex mass with septations and nodules, as well as free fluid in the abdomen (ascites). I am having a laparotomy on October 9th to remove the mass along with one ovary and tube (if all goes well). I am 30 years old.

My question is about the fluid. From what I understand, and what the oncologist told me, ascites is a bad sign as it is less likely to be present with a benign cyst. I'm wondering if anybody here had a large complex cyst with fluid in the abdomen that turned out NOT to be malignant?

While I am trying to be realistic and prepare myself for the worst, a little hope would also be great at the moment!

I do realize there is no way to determine if the mass is malignant before my surgery. I am not asking somebody to diagnose me, nor am I looking for advice on hospitals. I am simply wondering if anyone here has had the personal experience of a large complex mass with ascites that turned out to be benign.

There is no absolutely positively way at this point to determine if the mass is malignant without a biopsy. My advice is to go to the United States and seek a second opinion and possible treatment at Sloan-Kettering in New York City. They are top-shelf.
