Hello. I was having some slight spottingVaginal bleeding between periods on and off for about 2 months, and started to have pain on my right side, so I went to the dr. We thought it was from the IUD, so the dr ordered a transvaginalTransvaginal ultrasound sonogram to see if the iud was in place. It was, but they saw a 4 cm mass on my right ovary. I immediately freaked out. The dr assured me that she is 99% sure it is not cancer, and she thinks it is a dermoid cyst. I am 29 with 2 kids. I am freaking out at the possibility that this is cancer. She scheduled me for surgery for this wed. I am having the whole ovary removed, as we are done having kids.
Is it normalNormal saline flush to bleed with a dermoid? She thinks it is trying to twist or something, which is why she wants me in surgery. She said it did not look like a suspicious tumor, but I am just filled with doubt (I struggle with this anyway).
Chances are good that it is benign .. most good doctors have a "feel" for this and have a fairly good idea of what it is before surgery.. not 100% of course but pretty good odds.
Please, as I said, try not to worry.. and please keep us posted...
Good luck,
Sandy
Hi-
I too am scheduled for surgery on wednesday for two cystic masses inside my left ovary. Hopefully they take out my whole ovary, I have had a tubal 7 years ago, mom of 4 boys. Good luck to you, let me know how it all turns out!!!
Don't be scared... I had two 10cm dermoids that took over both of my ovaries.... didn't even know they were there until I had major pain one afternoon because one burst, or was leaking... believe me, you want them out before that happens. Dermoids are rarely ever cancerous... I think it's 1 or 2% of them and usually in women over 40. I am over 40 but there was no sign of cancer or anything... had both of my ovaries and tubes removed. It's been almost 4 months now and I feel great!! Please take your time recovering and do everything they tell you to do... no lifting, no housecleaning... really pamper yourself. I know that will be hard with the holidays coming up, but you really need to let the recovery process happen. Please, if you have any questions whatsoever, contact me and I'd be glad to talk to you about it.
