Need some reassurance...

I have had ovarian cysts in the past so when I got that twinge of pain I knew what was coming. In the past I took oral contraceptives and that took care of them. I stopped taking them after It cleared up. This has been a couple of years ago. I went to my gyno and she could not feel anything during the exam, but said my lower back/abdominal pain is probably due to the cyst rupturing and now i just have to wait for that liquid to re-absorb and for the cyst to resolve on its own. Pain started about last Monday. I am 36 year old w/ no kids. Does anyone know how long it can take for it to resolve? Is it normal to still be feeling this discomfort? also, there cannot be room for much fluid in a small cyst, why does it cause so much pain?  Thanks Ladies!

Yes get the ultrasound.! Also are you on birth control?? Depending on the kind of cyst you have or are getting, birth control can help.

I hope you feel better soon. When mine ruptured it took about a week and a half before I started to feel better. It may not be a bad idea...like the other ladies have said..to have the ultrasound just to be sure if there are more.

When the fluid disspells into your abdomin it can irritate the organs. I have functional cysts they rupture evey month. It is very painfull. Take motrin, avoid caffine, use a heating pad or hot bath. drink lots of water!!! Sometimes with me, if i keep moving it helps. But when u stop moving it hurts. If they put u on pain meds, make sure to ask before u take motrin or any other anti-inflamitory.

Hi,
Since I've never had a cyst rupture, I'm afraid I can't really hazard a guess on that. But makes sense that it would take a few days to resolve itself.. And, it's not unusual not to feel these cysts by palpating the area.. unless the cyst is large. These smaller ones can't be "felt" . You need a TVUS or other means.. What did your Dr. say about the possibiltiy of having one in then next few weeks?

Take care,
Sandy

The pain should gradually subside within the next few days. In my case, my doctor wasn't able to feel my cysts through an exam, I had to get an ultrasound. Don't be afraid to ask for one if you want to make sure you don't have more. Good luck!
