Ovarian Cyst + CA 125 results.

Last December after serious abdominal pain, I was told I have ovarian cysts. Not large, mostly fluid filled, no big deal, all blood work ok.

Then few weeks ago I went again for a check up and to a new Gyno and she said my right ovary is a bit large and might haev endometriosis, and did blood work.

Few hours ago I got a call that my CA 125 was at 48 and normal one is below 35 and I am freaking out, I know CA 125 is not to super worry about but I am.

Crying at the office. Nobody in my family has any of these problems, and they all freaking out worse then me.

I am on second day of birth control and made an appointment in 3 month to check the CA levels and the cysts again.

Any recommendations or words to calm me down?

Sorry, i forgot to mention my age and stuff.

I am 31, and the doctor didn't say what kind of cysts they are, one might be endo, but she didnt seem to worry, she just put me on the pill and said to comeback in 3 months to see if they have shrunk.

i dont know if i want children but there is a big difference in between wanting and ability to have them.

THANK YOU for all your answers. I have sometime before the follow up, so i decided not to stress out myself any further. what will be will be.

I have been recently diagnosed with a 10cm mass on my right adnexa, I have been the same, crying, comparing my radiology report to those of other characteritics of tumours and resulting in feeling complete fear all the time, so I can sympathise so much.  I had my CA125 blood test done which come back at 8.1.  Low, but I am also aware that these are not conclusive and can give out false postitives and vice versa, so doesnt make me feel any better.  The radiology report explained I had a well circumscibed 10cm mass, with Multiple fine internal echoes, with a trace of fluid at the superior aspect which dispersed on turning the patient. The radiologist said this is suggestive of an endometrioma, however my Gyno said you just can tell until its took out and the radiologist is only there to take picture, so unfortunately I have to wait for 4  weeks until surgery to find out exactly what it is.  Its scary, and can send you into a dark place, so I totally understand where you are coming from.  It also came as a total shock to me, as this was found by chance when myself and my partner we being investigated for why we could not conceive.  Sometimes I wish I was a Man! I am scared of surgery, scared of the anesthetic, scared of the results.  But I know we all have to try an have positive outlook to keep you sane.

I wish you all good luck & Best Wishes.

Just remember that cyst are very common and for most women they come and go and you will never know. Also I would be too concerned about the CA-125 it's not the most accurate. Just follow your doctors instructions and stay on top of all of your appointments.

Goodluck!

Did they say what size and type of cyst(s) you have now? Did they confirm endo? Any of these benign conditions can also elevate CA-125 results, too, so do not freak out too much. I understand crying in the office. I did a fair share of that myself and my condition turned out benign. My CA-125 was 34 but I was still fast-tracked for surgery because of my age (post-menopausal women are not supposed to get cysts, but I did).

I had polcystsic ovarian disease.  There have been real advances in understanding this condition since I was experiencing it in the 70s and 80s.  One advance is the discovery of a link between insulin and ovarian cysts.  You don't say how old you are, or whether you have or want children.  If you are a young woman, continue faithfully with your gyno exams.  Ask about checking glucose levels.  Check this very good link on PCOD:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/polycystic-ovary-syndrome/DS00423.  I had laser surgery to clear out the cysts and was able to conceive my son.  If you are headed toward childbearing, find a very good reproductive specialist also.
